Guys, I wonder if you could help?

On tickover i get a rattling from the 'centre/bottom' of the bike (sounds a bit like metal hitting metal, or some bearing type worn noise). When I pull the clutch in, it goes. When i let it out, it returns.
The bike does not do it all the time, but most of the time and it's gradually got worse over the last 6-10k miles. Possibly worse when its hotter.
The clutch does not slip, nor is the biting point any different. There's no leaks and there is the correct amount of oil in the engine. (not sure about the gearbox?)
It does not matter if the bike is on centre or side stand.

Any ideas?

The bike is an 04 GS with 48k miles.(my mates call it triggers broom :) ) Its never had a new clutch. Does it need one now, cos in the olden days, i used to renew a clutch when it started slipping.

Thanks

It's normal to get a rattle without any load on the thrust bearing (ie when it's in N with the clutch lever out). As soon as you pull in the clutch you load the bearing and all goes quiet.

However, I'm not so sure about the getting louder bit - maybe as the bearing wears, over time, so there is more movement and hence more noise?
