I have just replaced the complete clutch and slave cylinder on a 99 gs 1150. The issue is that if I pull away with a bit of throttle its fine, but the bike spends a lot of time at town speeds an no longer can it ride at walking pace without giving it more throttle. Have always been able to ride with zero throttle and keep it smooth. This will be its 3rd clutch and have never had an issue, would it be the flywheel?

The last clutch just started to slip at high rpm after 80,000 miles, but was silky smooth at walking pace.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You’ve fitted a pattern clutch friction plate, haven’t you :D .. I no longer fit them because they judder.

I fitted the most expensive one that Motorworks had!
You’ve not answered my question, The most expensive friction plate is an oil resistant longer spline item. It’s not a genuine BMW original friction plate

The one fitted is long spline SKU CLA33264-1 I guess its not a genuine oe plate! Replaced the slave cylinder with a new one at the time just to make sure we had no leaks.

Would having a long spline friction plate cause this issue?

I thought that I was buying a genuine clutch kit, I guess the way forward is to get one from BMW direct and just bin the motorworks one?

Motorworks do offer a genuine bmw friction plate … you could always contact them and say the friction plate they supplied judders and see what say ..

I did speak with them today and they did wonder if the long spline could be an issue, but it seems not. We both came to the conclusion to ask the gs forum ( maybe they are aware of an issue with aftermarket clutches?) However I was never offered a genuine one as an option, I will have words with them tomorrow and see if its possible to get the right one.

Thank you, will sort something out with them and have anther fun clutch replacement session!

I ordered ( my fault) an incorrect clutch plate for a SIIa Landy many years ago. I had the gearbox out about 5 times before realising my mistake. I feel your pain! 😁

I have a long spline clutch plate in mine and there’s zero judder.

Just an update, removed the new clutch and measured it an found to be very dished, looks like a major manufacturing issue with Sachs! Replaced with a new one and works great.
