My slave cylinder bearing failed on my 2001 r1150gs about two weeks ago now. Needed the bike as the car was off the road so I took the slave off and machined a bronze bush to suit. Ever since then ive had nothing but problems. The clutch bite is right down at the grip. Replaced the slave cylinder with new, and still the same problem. Replaced the pushrod and still having the same problem.....

Anyone got any suggestions? only thing I can think now is master cylinder seals or there's still air in the system?

What's the best fluid to use?

Thanks for the help, much appreciated

Is the slave somehow not quite in the right place? ie -if it's slightly proud of the casing, then the slave piston and pushrod won't engage the clutch plate properly.

I assume the bronze bush is replacing the bearing? I can't remember exactly how it fits together, but does the 'height' of the bush have an effect on the overall length of the slave-piston & pushrod assembly?

tHE NEW SLAVE THATS ON NOW IS SAME AS THE STANDARD ONE WITH A BEARING IN.

THE ONE I MADE HAD A BUSH THAT REPLACED THE BEARING BUT MAINTAINED THE HEIGHT SO THE PUSHROD SAT IN THE SAME PLACE. AND THE SLAVE IS PULLED ALL THE WAY UP AND SQUARE TO THE BACK OF THE BOX. THE OLD PUSHROD WAS SLIGHTLY WORN SO THATS WHAT I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM MIGHT HAVE BEEN SO I ORDERED A NEW ONE. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.

DOES THE WAY ROUND THAT THE THO HOSES MOUNT ON THE SLAVE MATTER?

There are more questions than answers...

It won't, but why would you reverse? Physically more difficult to route than the stock way.

Bleed properly as I suspect there is still air in the system.

Use DOT 4 brake fluid.

I'm not reversing them I'm putting them back to the drawing, someone had done it in the past and got them the wrong way round.
