I have just fitted a gearbox that came from an R80RT to a paralver GS and the clutch operaring arm on the back of the 'box fouls the frame when you pull in the clutch lever. So is the arm different on the GS 'box or is my engine and gearbox not central in the frame? It is only a very small amount but it looks like the GS one should be 2-3mm shorter.
Unfortunately I don't have a GS one to hand to compare so any help would be nice.

Cant quite see where the lever would contact the frame. I know that it gets close if the lever is allowed to go back(towards the rear) but once clear of the curve on the downtube, the clutch cable pulls the lever towards the gearbox and away from the frame. I can only think that the adjustment at the gearbox is wrong. Pics would help:rob

This isn't my G/S, but perhaps the picture will help...

What year bike was the RT box from?

If your arm is different from the one in Solo's picture you may have an earlier gearbox.

Here's a picture of the two types of clutch arm. Which ones yours?

I will have to go and have another look, I think it is the top one, the bike was 1988 I believe.
Solo the arm touches the frame right at the tip as it sweeps past the bottom side rail of the frame, on the inside by the foot rest. Ihope you understand that it's a bit differcult to explain in words.
Thanks for the input Rob and Solo.

It could be the bearing that the arm pivots on
The other thing that's worth checking is that the engine is in the proper place...(as in the spacers are fitted correctly because there are 3 the same and one longer one if i remember correctly )
I know this because when you fit a 1100 swing arm in you have to move the engine over and the clutch arm needs altering or it touches the frame.....Worth a look

It should be the top arm as the lower one is for a pre 81 gearbox

OK I have had another look and it is the same as the top one in Rob's photo.
I took the arm off and put it back on and that alone improved it although it is still touching only just so I think play in the bearing, if that does not fully cure it I will make new spacers to move the engine and 'box over to the left a couple of mm.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Just loosen the adjusting nut a touch, and tighten the cable adjuster. :augie

Step is right. I had exactly the same problem. I thought the "clutch arm bearing" was bad.
There should be 102mm from end of cable to where the cable locks in on the trans. This will keep the arm from hitting the frame.
Maybe someone could post a picture of how the cable is adjusted from the manual.
After the right amount of measurement is made, you then can finish up the adjustment with the adjuster on the clutch perch and the nut on the back of the trans.

I recon then that its a spacer problem.

It is a spacer issue.

I loosened all the engine mount nuts and the frame was squeezed in a bit, with all the nuts loose the arm does not touch.
So I will make new spacers to match the frame in a natural (i.e. relaxed) position.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
