Hi All,
I have an problem with the clutch on my 1200 GS and want a few opinions. If I pull the lever in, all the pressure gradually releases until there's none. Release it, it re-pressures and then the same thing happens again each time. I reckon one of the seals has gone in the master cylinder so the fluid is by-passing it, (had this on a car years ago), but I haven't stripped the GS system before so thought I'd throw it out there first.

cheers,

two allen bolts hold the slave cylinder on to the back of the gearbox,i dare bet its leaking from there, but dont just look at it from the outside ,take it off and have a propper look ,its probs leaking, into the housing,if so replace and bleed the system off.:thumb

I have a witness of fluid from the above mentioned area and have on two occasions had some clutch slip.
Most recently yesterday after a prolonged bout of clutch feathering riding at walking pace amongst the VW fans at Harewood House.

if the fluid was weeping out and entering the housing as you suggest, could this explain the slip?

Whats the bill for a repair/new seal/new cylinder?

Any help welcomed, ta

If you are loosing fluid from the reservoir its the slave cylinder, if no loss its the master cyl.:thumb

Good News Update

Read variously that the fluid rises as the plate wears, and deduced that perhaps a combination of rising fluid and heat expanding the volume of the fluid - could cause clutch slip.

Anyway removed lid and sucked out a small amount of fluid with some aquarium air tube, Result:-no slip and good feel to the clutch.

It may have been a coincidental set of circumstances, but it worked for me and may be of benefit to others.
