Clutch problem

Hi
Whilst overtaking today my clutch suddenly started slipping when i changed down a gear, It then continued to slip everytime i accererated unless i was very carefull.
My bike is a 1100gs from 1996 with only 40,000km on the clock.
Shouldn´t a clutch last longer than this ?
Could it be leaking oil seals from the engine or gear box ?
Has anyone else had this experience ?
I slackened off the clutch wire so it isn´t that.
The thing that is puzzling me is that it happen so suddenly.
Any comments on this problem would be great.

Did you adjust the clutch arm at the rear of the gearbox .

No use just adjusting the cable at the handlebar end.

Mine is a 97 with 45,000 miles and is currently having the clutch replaced by Mike at Cardiff Motorrad (I was hoping it was a seal but alas...). So they can go at (to my mind) relatively low mileage.
Symptoms were normalish 1,2,3rd gear and lots of slip in 4 and 5th

I like to thank Steptoe for that tip, It seems that i was lucky and adjust the clutch at the lever end and stop it slipping. Saved me a lot of unnecessery work, thank you.

Steptoe, the clutch on my 1150 gs is biting very late now can it be adjusted or am I looking at a new one?

Try bleeding the unit. And then waiting until it starts to slp before shelling out for a new clutch .


Might not change anything, but it's worth a try .

Did someone once say that as the clutch wears, the fluid rises in the master cylinder?? By removing some fluid it will bring the lever back.

This stuck in my mind as I thought it rather odd...........................or was it in my dreams last night?

Yes, that does happen - But causes the clutch to slip.
