Just a quicky folks. I had a little problem yesterday with the RT in that the dreaded clutch hose problem reared it's head.

Having stripped the bike down, I have removed the slave cylinder and inside it was full of oil. The hose itself doesn't look too bad although the crush washer on the top didn't look too sharp and may have been the area where it was leeking (there was a definate leak on the outside).

The slave cylinder is only 12 months old so am I right to assume that the oil between the pushrod and slave cylinder is gearbox oil and it's quite normal????

I'm gonna put a braided hose on the clutch anyway, but I'm worried there may be another issue.

Thanks for your help peeps :thumb

Seal needs replacing in the gearbox, in the tunnel where the slave cylinder lives.

If you leave it the gearbox oil will find it's way along the pushrod tunnel and onto the clutch = fecked clutch

So the tunnel between the slave and pushrod is supposed to be dry :blast:blast:blast

Any tips on replacing the seal :bow:bow:bow

Yes.

Remove old seal, replace with new seal :nenau

Cheers fella :blast:blast:blast

Go on give me a clue. Does the pushrod unscrew to make it easier.

I still don't quite understand how that seal can let in oil and also allow oil to get to the clutch plate (I've never had to take one apart).
Surely if it's letting oil into the camber there must be oil on the otherside of the seal. So if there is oil on the otherside, how can it get to the clutch plate :nenau

I don't suppose anyone has an exploded diagram of the gearbox?

Removed the Pushrod and I'm non the wiser. Can't get the seal out for love nor money.

Give us a clue to the best technique please. Is there a special tool? which is the best way of attacking it (it definately needs replacing now :o):D:D

Also, for purpose of ordering, any idea what this seal is called. the description below just doesn't sound right (no 2 seal).

?

The Pushrod can be pulled out

The seal stops oil getting out of the gearbox, and stops the gearbox oil from going down the pushrod tunnel to the clutch.

make an intrusion into the seal and hook it out.

My cock isn't long enough to make an intrusion on the seal, so I guess I'm going to need to drill it carefully :nenau

Hit it with something sharp - i have a set of cheap screwdrivers i use just for hitting and levering things.

Cheers Neil. All I have is cheap screwdrivers so I should have no probs finding one :thumb

Got the little B'stard out.............Cheers Neil :thumb

New parts arrived today, best advice for getting the seal in in one peice:nenau

I have a socket that seems to fit nicely so, smear of grease and pop it in with a wee tap of an extention bar with the socket on the end???

Sorry to ressurect this one but :blast:blast:blast

Now I have ridden the bike a few times it seems to be suffering from clutch slip.

Now it didn't slip before which suggests I may have done something wrong. The slave cylinder took a bit of pursuation to get on and I wonder if it is possible for the slave to be putting a small amount of pressure on the pushrod, enugh for it to slip????

If this isn't feasible, I guess I have contamination of the clutch plate :spitfire:spitfire

So have I done something wrong or do I just need a new clutch and if so, what sort of price to get someone else to fit it (cause I don't know whether I can be arsed :D:D:D (read have the skill :augie)).

You were talking about replacing the hose. If you did are yousure you haven't overfilled the master cylinder? This could cause the clutch slip.

You can also take out the starter motor and have a peek at the clutch through the hole to see if it is dry.

Also, I've not had one apart, is it possible that the pushrod isn't located properly in the slave piston?

Master cylinder is underfilled so defo not that.

I was thinking the pushrod was not located properly, but I can't see how.

Thanks for the info on starter motor, that's worth a look if I don't get any other answers :thumb2

You get it sorted, how much oil was there?, just removed my slave cylinder and like yours, its a little damp with oil, looks like I am going to have to replace the seal :(
