The clutch on my 01 1150 GS with 21K on it has just started to slip yesterday, surely this is far to early for the clutch to be knackered? I have a hoirrible feeling its oil contamination as I've had no problems at all up until yesterday.

I have read that there is a 'problem' with a oil weeping onto the clutch due to a seal fault. What seal is this (rear main or gear box?). If it's the rear main, can this be replaced from the 'outside' once the g-box is off? I.e. it won't cost 'much' more to have the rear main replaced at the same time as the clutch? Anything else you guy's would do while it's apart?

Can anyone give me a rough idea of price to replace the clutch and offending seal (dealer). Do you reckon I'd get any goodwill from BMW on the replacement?

My clutch started to slip after 18k miles, but as it was an 02 bike and therefore still under warantee it was fixed by BMW. From the comments the mechanics made it's an expensive job to replace the clutch.

Yes it is, one of the biggest on a beemer I think! I've spoken to Pidcocks today and they reckon about 500 quid  5 hours work, plus about 250 for the parts. They also reckon that oil contamination is not a 'common' fault on the 1150 (as it perhaps was on the 1100). I suppose I'll have to wait and see.

Well, apparently mine was something to do with the master cylinder seal but don't hold me to that as the warantee work was done by the same company who returned a bike to me with one coil incorrectly wired so it wasn't firing on all cylinders, who failed to put a seal in when they did the 24k mile service and took about a month to do some other warantee work on it too.

Was at Steptoes yesterday, I will need a new clutch soon for my 1100, 140 for the clutch kit, plus the time to fix it.. Two man job...

Save yourself a few squid and chat to Neil...
