No I didn't own a scooter and I've been a GS rider for 7 years now. I had the 1100 then the 1150
Why did I not use the clutch ~ in my case >
Well it's very satisfying and done properly it's effortless, neat quicker and smoother, more secure (ie never jumped out of gear as opposed to occasional clutched false engagement particularly between 4 and 5). Also going down the box was dead easy closing the throttle and gently applying pressure on the pedal as I raised the revs again always snicked it in without any nasty protests and never locked the back wheel (except once too fast between2 &1). [A Harley D I rode and a VTX 1800 really didn't like this tho].
But with my new toy I'm being more cautious although the demo bike I tried 'seemed' perfectly happy with no clutch changes.
