Having recently moved back to a BMW from Italian and Japanese sports bikes I was wondering whether or not to continue with the practice of clutchless changes - up, not downward. :nenau I would appreciate members' thoughts.

Thank you for the response chaps, I will revert back to cluthless changing (upwards only) I have never ever had a clutch or gearbox problem in the past using this method on many, many bikes. Apologies for not seeing the subject had already been raised. Doh!:blast

Downshifts also work but only from a fully shut throttle. The BMW shifter is sensitive so only gentle pressure on gear lever. Momentarily blip throttle to unload transmission and the gear snicks down. I rarely do it because it's all so fussy I never get more than one shift before going too slow & have to pull the clutch.

The beauty of dog boxes! Other than moving off and stopping I rarely use the clutch on either the 1200 or the Airheads now I've got used to doing it.

It's also helped by using 85/140 GL5 in the gearboxes (as well as the bevels), much less clunky changes. There will no doubt be plenty of disapprovers of this, but I find it a worthwhile improvement.
