Recently the bike started to stutter badly, and so i wanted to check the coils with steptoes method, and thought I'd found something.. On checking lower right coil i pushed it in and it clicked ( had not removed it) now if i push it there is a distinct movement there, the left bottom is altogether more static.
Sod's law is the the surging has calmed down and there is no point taking it to Steptoe without a demonstrable issue
Maybe tomorrow won't be snowing and i can better test under load

Coils are supposed to work or not work but my main coils both played up for weeks before one eventually packed up. A few miles later the other one went dead.
Unplug both secondaries there should be no difference. If it's misfiring the bad side will be the one with cooler exhaust header. A sooted up O2 sensor is also clue.

Ok but does the right lower have more movement than feels right

Unplug the right main coil. The cylinder should run but down on power the secondary coils spark later than the primaries.
When main coils miss fire the ECU interprets the unused oxygen as a sign of weak mixture so injects more fuel. That will quickly soot the spark plug and O2 sensor.
Early black painted coils are not as reliable as the stainless sheathed type.

I can't get it to break now typical!
Been out today for an hour or so did all the disonnecting.. On top coils ran pretty normal
On bottoms well it ran.

Service due in 800 miles with steptoe.. So let's see how it plays out

I've a feeling the right bottom cap was loose.. I could hear my intercom speakers crackling maybe electrical interferance

When my bottom coils fail, I'm planning to fit car stick coils which cost 2p second hand and very little brand new.
They won't simply drop in so I'll put them under the petrol tank and run HT leads with waterproof caps.

If you suspect the bottom coil is arcing just unplug its trigger wire connector and see if the crackling stops.

Issue now is no crackling... So maybe the shove stopped it..
