MRA refused to route me on this route over the Col de la Bonnete, I had to do it very manually. Is that because it knows the road isn't suitable for my 911?

Could someone that knows the area advise if it's sensible to drive that route, or will it end in tears?

It is perfectly good enough road for a 911. If a motor home can make it, then so will you.

Did you type in Cime de la Bonette? This should take you here.

maybe a seasonal closure or for repairs

anyway, you will be fine but hope you do not get stuck behind from

Thanks Ev. I did, and it routed me from Castellane via Jausiers. It refused to route over the col, till I created about 25 way points by clicking the route

Here you go: A to B, via just two shaping points.

I switched from my default of using Here maps, to TomTom and put in two shaping points.

We did it last year end of May - all I can say is ‘take it easy’. When we were there at the top is was very cold and very wet. We did some cols this year, same weekend, that were a couple of hundred metres lower but much less hostile. Nobody up the Col de la Bonnete but Col d’Izoard, col de Vars and Col de la Cayolle were as busy as hell.

Ha, maybe that was it. I was using Here maps. I’ll try different map sets next time. I needed about 20 shaping points.

I do find if you enter a start and destination, and then try to modify the route with additional shaping points it tries very hard to still use it’s original route, adding the new points then returning to the original route. Hence to get the Col de la Bonnette route I wanted I had to add points sequentially from the start

Clearly Here maps believe that the col is still closed. Why, I have no idea. Hence its reluctance to route you that way.

Take a degree of care when exporting a non-Here derived route into a Garmin device, as the maps do differ. Whether or not this causes problems later is a bit in the lap of the gods. The standard advice is to always check what the device is displaying before setting out. This applies whatever map was used and / the device.

This is to run in MRA. I created the routes in Basecamp, because it’s still better for somethings, then exported them and imported them to MRA. First attempt failed but after some help from Mzokk it worked except that MRA made a right horlicks of this route, where it wouldn’t route over the Col and no amount of adding extra waypoints would deter it from going through Jausiers.

I then created the whole route in MRA, and it still wouldn’t route over the Col till I just added many sequential waypoints.

I didn’t try changing maps, though. It does seem Here maps thinks the Col is closed.

Is there in MRA, like Basecamp, an option to select / deselect seasonal closures?

One thing I hate about the XT2's Tread app is you can't toggle this.
Yes there is,in the gold account you can disable seasonal closures in here mapping

Yes, it can be done in the car. Yes, it gets very narrow, gravel and bumps in places near the summit.
Planner will not allow route? *
Could have been a temporary closure. Probably need to check close to departure time.
I have had planned routes in Garmin, also shared on Tomtom go. One has said ok, another would not route. Route has been closed. Both systems are ‘live’ for updates, one was wrong!
Currently looks open:https://en.cols-cyclisme.com/ouverture-cols.htm

* if I remember correctly, there may be a one way section near the top? If you are trying to place waypoints and force the route…it will not go the wrong way against traffic?

It routes fine on Google maps, which is usually pretty up to date on closures, but I’ll run it again before setting off.
