I have a strange ongoing problem with my homebuilt computer that's now developed into a major crash. Now using my lady's 2nd homebuilt computer to post!
Basically it's an Athlon 3200 with 1Gb of Ram and a pair of SATA 120Gb HDDs that are mirrored.
It's been an excellent machine for at least a year running for hours on end without any real problems.
I normally leave the mains on the the machine and it runs up without a problem. If I turn the mains off and back on the fans all 'kick over' and sometimes the main push switch doesn't seem to 'latch' necessitating toggling the mains and repeating the process to get it going.
I have noticed that recently when it's very cold in the room it just crashes. I restart it and it runs for longer periods until warm when it's fine. I often need to rebuild the mirrored drives which is time consuming but it gets going eventually.
Today it failed to re-boot with a Windows error, so not being ofay with the recovery console I started the long haul of re-formatting and re-loading XP. But I have a registry error that prevents me even doing that now.
So stumped it's off to the shop, but I sometimes wonder if they know anymore than me.
Any ideas? Or does anyone know how to format mirrored SATA drives from BIOS?
