Hi All,

Just bought a 2015 GS1200 TE and love it to bits. The heated grips are great, however, my the tips of my thumbs get cold because they arent in contact with the grips and point forward when holding the handle bars. I'm assuming hand gaurd extenders wont make any difference becaus they extend to the top, and my thumbs a below. Any ideas? (Sensible ones...)

Wind up or not
It is a problem I have as I had some frost nip in my thumbs many years ago and they hurt when cold and get cold easily

I solved my problem with Bark buster blizzards. Not quite the full muff ....

Get some heated gloves, some have battery packs that you can charge via USB if you don't want to hardwire into your bike.

Its not a joke post. My hands are nice and warm except the tips of my thumbs, just wondered if there was an obviuos answer other than heated gloves, muffs etc.

This is perfectly normal, better gloves or more enclosing hand guards or muffs are needed if the cold bothers you that much.

Don't Motorrad do some gloves with gel in them that work with the hot grips to keep all your pinkies warm? Or did I dream i it? :nenau

same here... cold thumb tips on really cold days, it's the turbulent cold air coming under the handgaurds... summer gloves are fine to about 6 or 7 degrees, after that i use BMW Pro winter 2 gloves, they are superb :thumb:thumb

Nick some of the plastic gloves from the petrol station that they have to stop you getting diesel on your hands and wear them over you riding gloves if they fit. You'll be amazed how much difference they make and if it works for you get some marigolds or industrial wash gloves that fit over you gloves.

I use barkbusters blizards too and they work well, though I've noticed this year that I'm starting to feel the cold more. I've seen another handguard for the GS that does extend below, think it might have been on nippy's site.

Hello folks

In Aus. we have plenty of cold. I reckon the worst I have seen is a ride where we had lunch at Lithgow in the blue mountains and then travelled south to canberra via goulburn.
I think it got up to 2 deg C once, riding through rain and sleet and snow for about 4 hours, what joy. Actually it was all right, with a heated jacket liner of course. But my hands or the ends of fingers and thumb, they froze. This was with heated grips going and handguards. I was wearing new Held Cold Champ Mens Gloves which I thought would be ideal for those conditions. Not so, I put on some lighter gloves the next day and didn't suffer as much.

So yes we have enough cold weather and cold ends of fingers is a reality. Keeping dry is important and stopping from freezing is also important. And so is having fun. But picking your nose with a frozen digit is hard work.

Have fun, Simmo

The guards are fitted at the dealers and not all are fitted the same height. When I got mine I tilted the guards down as they were both at different levels. This improved the phenomenon you describe. I also use muffs in the real cold so I can continue to wear summer gloves.

Now this, is a joke post.
