Over the months of reading on the site i have seen a few members swop tanks and plastics in order to change bike colour.

I am contemplating trying to do this but am unsure of of any potential pit falls.

I have a Silver 2000 model 1150 and would like to swop for the blue and white scheme. I belive the B+W is a newer version. are there likely to be any changes in design that could prevent this?

Those that have done this is it an easy enough job in general? Do you have to be a level one BMW mechanic to be able to do the job?

Thanks for your time and hopefully your assistance.

Very Easy, fiddliest bit is pulling all the wiring through the rear painted section.

thanks for that Steptoe. I assume all the components are the same what ever year bike it is?

just be carefull when you go for mot if the mot shop is computerised .the computer gives the details on yer logbook inc colour if the tester changes the colour when asked to comfirm i think the dvla will ask or just update and issue a new logbook. if your gonna sell the bike in original colours (maybe not now) just tell the tester to confirm details of oe colour.

What you on abaht...?

If he changes the bike`s colour,he`s legally obliged to amend the details on the V5 and send it DVLA anyway...regardless of any MOT.

knowing a few people that have done the same they ask for the oe colour to be put on the mot, sports bikes that have race/trackday fairings are the most popular but their are 2 1150 gs who ve done the same (yellow-b &w and black-b &w) it just saves filling out forms and pi**ing about if youre gonna change it back before selling, and when selling you show all youre old mots (prof of mileage and so on)and the colour changes most people will asume you crashed so thats why the colour changed and if you get pulled and the police question it well it was changed yeterday and youve posted your v5 off with amendments.
