Come on guys who owns an Africa Twin ???

I'm seriously thinking about a tri-colored DCT Bike

if would be good if you guys could give me your thoughts on the following, as I want to add side protection bars but also want to keep the weight down

Has anyone changed the end can .....any recommendations? ..... a Remus can will halve the weight of the stock silencer
Do you really need a centre stand ...... probably yes ..... but it's heavy
Which protection bars .....?
I would do all my own maintenance - do you need to remove the engine and side protection bars to access all the areas needed to do this
I would not use hard luggage but would want the mounting frames - any recommendations for frames
Has anyone changed the foot-pegs
Tyres - any recommendations for 50/50 offroad/tarmac type tyres
which radiator and front light protection?

SW Motech bars are good and I've swapped the tiny OEM pegs for Pivot Pegz.

Std can as it sounds fine, looks ok to me too
Centre stand fitted as its a pain to sort chain , cleaning etc without. It is a very tall stand though !
Didn't want bars but did want to protect the tranny (DCT) so fitted a Bumot bashplate which covers the crankcases too
Dealer while under warranty
Just a Trekker topbox plate so far and am looking at soft side cases
Footpegs are fine for me
OEM are seriously shit in the wet, think they are typical jap with little silica content
Rad guards from rugged roads, no light guard

Check CRF250 pegs on Amazon or ebay. Straight fit and i think about a tenner. I've got the Arrow can, full Heed bars and Honda centre stand.

+1 for Heed Bunker bars

GSG crash bungs/sliders.....whatever you want to call them fitted. A slight pain as you have to drop the headers to fit the mounting brackets (these replace the front engine brackets), but simple enough. Quality is outstanding and I suppose for the price, reasonable enough (£120). I did have to put a slight champer in the left side alloy bar as it just touched the exhaust. A standard set of headers wouldn't have this problem, but it's not like you can see my handiwork.

Well I could also be back on a Africa Twin, It looks like my job could be coming to an end, the two weeks work that I was offered 34 years ago could end abruptly with me head butting someone !! anyway ive got to say I simply love the GS Rallye Sport and have done more miles on it in the 4 months of ownership than I have on any other bike ive owned, but Ive had a fantastic offer on it against a New Tricolour Africa twin brand new fully loaded bike but ive got a few concerns

Have they sorted the switches that stick yet
Do the heated grips now work ?
do the spokes still fester if you mention rain

Apart from that I did enjoy the couple of thousand miles I did on my last one, the main reason for doing this is that ive got a bit of finance on the BMW and doing the deal will get rid of the finance and get me a 67 plate new bike with no additional money and no finance,
Im thinking of telling them that I only want the bike with the crash bars, fog lights cntr stand and 12v outlet as Oxfords are nice and hot, Id like a bigger top box like a 52ltr trekker and Hepco and becker do a nice little pair of soft panniers that lock on, or id buy a pair of top loaders as they are so much better (For Me) I remember the touring screen was pantz so a MRA one would maybe be better ?? was also thinking of a set of Karoo3 tyres but not seen them on a AT yet as the std tyres are also shite

just waiting on the figures for the options and ill make the call !!

Ive had a DCT Africa Twin for a week so far as a loaner and albeit I hated it on the way home ive ridden it about 350 miles now, and in Sport 1 the gear shift is very close to where id shift myself so thats a big improvement on the DCT box I had before, now the gearbox is seriously beginning to make sense and im thinking that maybe and I mean just maybe I should have got the DCT Im sure Ill enjoy the manual but this is the first time ive even thought about the DCT !!

Anyway a busy weekend planned for me and the New Africa Twin

It won't matter, if it thinks you are in a wrong gear even in manual it will change down.
