I have a 2014 GS with GSA rack and ally panniers. My wife is 5'3.5" tall and has around 27/28" inseam. I also got a set of vary panniers but with them she can't get on the bike as they are mounted a tad more forward than ally panniers. However, ally panniers enable her to get up the bike (as these mount about 1'/1.5" further back), she then has another problem. The locking mechanism for the frames is digging in to her calves while she barely making contact with the footrests, resulting in getting pressure pain in her lover leg. It is probably worth mentioning that there are no problems when panniers aren't fitted. So the question is, are there any one of you who got similar problem with your partners, wife, etc? What are the solutions? are there higher pillion footrests available to buy as well as a lower seat option? I know sergeant do a standard and a lower seat sets. However I am 6'3' and have 34" inseam, meaning I had to go for a BMW high seat option and as a result sargent seats are no good to me.

Let me know of any solutions.

It's not going th improve things by lowering the seat if it's her calves that are hitting the panniers. If you think the seat is to blame you could possibly get it lowered. How about a temporary job on the footrests say higher them about an inch or 2 with gaffer tape and wood to see if that works. If it does then do some research or make some. Mooveing the panniers back would be a nightmare. JJH

Can try to improvise with wood and tape, maybe a GIVI panniers and frames then a solution as these use a "click" lock system rather than a lever type.

I'd be getting the Mrs to sit on a bike with that setup before spending any more£££££. If there's a spare set of standard w/c gsa panniers going cheap let me know!!! JJH

will do but at the cost of what I paid for them. They are used however.

See how you get on first. I've just bought a set of panniers the other day off here and I'm waiting for delevery. Not standard ones though. You will sell them no problem on here. There is always someone looking for them. JJH

could you possibly get footpeg extensions to lift the rear footpegs wich in turn should move her leg up and forward, just a thought.

Yes, that would be a great idea but i haven't got a clue where to start looking. Any suggestions on make/brand?

My wife is almost exactly the same size and manages with Vario panniers fitted. She just swings her leg higher when mounting the bike. With the top box on too, she climbs onto one footpeg and steps over the seat - not easy, but she copes

Which leg is her "lover leg"?;)

What about some foam pipe insulation wrapped around the mounts? For the short leg issue, cut out a cardboard pattern piece to extend the peg sufficiently upwards. Then get a local engineering shop to do it in steel or a strong alloy? Someone on the forum might even be able to help.

Fixed it for you......No charge.

Hi John,

Thank you for your suggestion. I understand that these are lowering pegs rather than making things easier for a shorter pillion to reach the pegs. Can these be mounted to make them higher?

Ev

I think so.......................lf you look at the small pictures (to the side showing the assembly) it looks like the can be rotated to make these higher.
I would suggest that you E Mail them..................They are quite helpful.

John
