Watch out for London buses, most are driven by ****-you psychopaths who use their bulk as a weapon and regard traffic lights as advisory.

Just curious to see if second hand Advs are shifting. Although I have seen the two at Cannon are now marked sold on their website. So there is no downturn

I'll be extra careful for the initial weeks. I've done quite a lot of cycling in central London rush hour so have an idea of the various bus/taxi issues. Will take it easy and get in to the m-bike swing of things.

Yes I ended up getting the 07 one from Cannons (collecting it next Sat.). I have seen the newer 2nd hand ones (06/07) going pretty quickly.

Picked up my 07 GSA today from Cannons. Toured around a bit and covered about 200 miles - I like it, I like it a lot!

Hi,
I've owned a KTM 950 Adventure and now an 1150 Adventure. I'd say the GS is better suited to everyday use, shaft drive is much better and it is impossible to touch the ground with two feet on a KTM.......
The KTM is faster and more fun but not as practical (smaller tank, chain drive, expensive servicing, only one tyre option) and looks odd with luggage! It does seem very well made though and is easier to handle when moving.
The best thing is to try both and see which one you enjoy the most as you will be on it every day, then deal with any downsides later!
Corrosion can be kept at bay with AFC (I think that's the right initials!) it's a spray as used by the Navy to protect planes etc.

ps go for a long ride on the GS as they get better the more you ride them!

I am not sure why you want a GSA rather than the 'ordinary' model - and everyone seems to agree with you! The Adventure costs £8 -900 more and for that you get a larger petrol tank (which you may not wish to fill too much for traffic) and a more 'imposing' bike -and not much else that you 'need.' I understand that BMW Park Lane are offering 2007 spec; 1200GS's at about a £1,000 under list - before you start negotiating. (The 2008 model has another 5hp; and an imporved box they say - but my 2004 model still runs perfectly.)

I was really looking forward to riding to work yesterday - cannot remember ever looking forward to going to work on a Monday!
I'd ridden up on Sunday to try a route and was all set. 11.30pm our 2 year old woke up and puked. Long story short - I had to take the day off the look after her, so no ride.
Today was my first go. Took longer than I thought on the way in but was riding 20-30 mph slower on the A21 and M25 because of the weather and the route was not the best.
Revised route home with a little help from a biking colleague and although still slow because of the weather and getting used to it all, I was about 20 minutes quicker than the train.
Will keep practicing and look forward to the better weather.
The GSA is just fantastic - very solid and easy to ride. I'm glad I listed to some of you and not others!!!

Welcome to the road. I do the A21 commute to London from Hastings regularly and wouldn't trust the train. I think I've had all the worst weather thrown at me so far and I've still not submitted, I hope your enjoyment continues. I have weatherproofed myself and the bike though with heated clothing, muffs and this week installed foot flaps to keep the cold/sludge/rain off my feet.
I find the A21 a challenging road especially the twisty foresty bits, how about you? It's fun though when it all comes together.
