I have just orderred a 1Gb Sandisk Compact Flash Card, which I want to use with my Nav11. The standard 512 card will then be used for my digital camera.

Question is, what will I need to do, ie: format or what ever, to either of the cards, to make them work with the respective Nav and camera?

Suggestion much appreciated.

Cheers
Paul

Paul,

should be plug & play.

Have a quick look through your camera's manual (goes against the grain, I know :P) and check that it can deal with a CF card of that capacity. I've come across cameras which were designed only to work up to 64 Mb (probably the largest CF card commonly available at the time of manufacture).

Pretty sure a 2610 will work with 1 Gb though(how much was it? )...

Hi Mike, paid £139 all up from The Digital Camera Company. Probably not the cheapest, but got a extra battery for my Canon G5 as well.

Main concern is Nav 11. As the compact flash card will be empty, what will I need to do when I put it into the unit. Am I right in thinking the compact flash card is just to store the the actual maps from mapsource? If that is the case then I presume all I will need to do is download the maps and way points onto the Nav 11 !!!

Checked the G5 manual, cant find anything which states a maximum size for the card, so hope it will be ok.

Extra batteries are always useful. :thumb

Thinking about buying a 1Gb card here - saw one advertised locally for $99 (£55ish), limited ot '1 per customer' - think I'll go & buy it :D...

You should be able to put it in the Nav II, connect to your PC, highlight alll your maps & then download them - it's what I did with my original 512 Mb card... AFAIK it's only used to store maps, routes, waypoints etc, so it shouldn't need any special formatting...

At that price can you get me a dozen? Have you got a false beard that you can use?

:D

Just bought my 1Gb CF - $129, with a $30 rebate (which will take 8-10 weeks before they deny receiving it etc:P). Even if they do, that's still just over £70. :thumb

Lifetime worldwide warranty too. It works fine in the Nav11 - and, if anyone's interested, in the Canon S50 as well...

I am after a 1GB CF card, I see Pan recommends "named brands" I totally concur with him, cheapest I have found at the moment is a sandisk 1GB at £132 from Digital Depot, not sure re P+P.
Any others out there cheaper? not e-bay

Why not? If the seller has a good rating (pretty much all positive), you should be OK.

I bought a 1Gb SanDisk a few months ago from New York. It arrived within a week in a Jiffy Bag and I paid no tax on it as the vendor knew what he was doing. It was cheaper than anything else I had seen (although they are cheaper still now!).

Check here - £88 plus postage.

What more do you want?

Greg

Many thanks for the repies, had a bad moment with a gold starred e-bayer recently (calming down now) hence my name, but that expansys one seems to have my name on it, cheers fer that:D
