Complained about 2009 GSA faults today and.....

My '04 doesn't have DYNAMIC or PREMIUM packs.

Am I missing anything ??? (No, thought not).:augie

I did have a little rust on the frame where my boots rub, but the rust rubs away just the same as the paint does so it is often shiny metal.:D The centrestand is a little rusty in the middle, I could get it powder coated at work but hey, its just a stand.

I thought the early bikes were meant to be shit ???

You're right - more spec on the newer bikes = higher price. If I take an equivalent to my 05 that would be £11,260 with heated grips, ABS and alarm.

Sounds like you dont like to complain (read.......dont want to complain) and that you enjoy being a martyr.

My TDM 900 didnt have such problems and it was 5 grand. My bandit 650 for fecks sake didnt even have half these problems - no corrosion on it in the 4 years since new. :nenau

Its pathetic. However, as i stated in the email that i sent, i do still very much enjoy my bike but i now find that i like it, not love it. If i do go for another bmw (hopefully after all this has been sorted) and in a couple of years by which i'll have reached circa 60k miles, ill be buying a K1300 GT and hope (perhaps in vain) that it'll be better.

Re my bikes issues, ill see how they are dealt with and take it from there but i wont be taken for a fool.

Well I'm on my second bike from Clarks in Dundee. the first one had a few of the usual early 1200 problems and they fixed them with zero hassle. I got a great deal on a new adv last year and its been fine so far. I've always had a good, helpful and keenly priced service from them.

Bought my 1200GSA in April 09. Now done 11k miles. Its never seen a drop of ACF50 or WD40, and it still scrubs up like new. Is mine unique.:mmmm

Fully specked with Dynamic, Premium, Comfort, Leds, Dark screen. £12500.

All new bikes rust rapidly in my experience even when left for a day or so after being ridden on salted wet roads.

I found this out first hand around 10 years ago with a GSXR I had and ever since have been totally anal about cleaning as soon as I get home and have never had a problem since with corrosion on the 6 bikes I've had

just face it they are all as flakey as feck.... you pays your money you takes your choice......

back in the summer Vines had an 08 GSA with 10 times more rust/flakey paint then my 8 year old 1150..... it would break my heart....

right now i'm off back to the 1150 forum...:hide

Remember postin this about your TDM ?

ST247

I have just sold my 2nd Yamaha TDM 900.

I complained bitterly regarding some finsih issue's on the bike and soon after i got -

two front brake discs and pads
two footrest hanger plates
two brand new downpipes
several nuts bolts, unions and clips replaced
and due to un-shiftable marks on the engine casing - a whole, brand new engine fitted

all under warranty, all free, all without stress.

Im more than willing to give the GS a second chance but i'll be regretting the day i bought it if it gives me anymore unexpected probs esp. when i can get that kinda service from a high street jap dealer.

Im sure you can see my point.

The above, COPIED FROM YOU ORIGINAL POST IN 2008, does sound like you had exactly the same isues with the TDM

I think the problems mentioned by OP are genuine, and not OK for a bike of this price.
But, it's the reaction of the dealer that's worthless. Losing several emails is proof of not caring for the customer, no matter how annoying the content. And then the replies to your complaints... Go somewhere else. I genuinely believe that you must find a good dealership, and buy your bike/car there. To the extent that the dealer is more important than the brand of car/bike. What dealers don't seem to realise is that the first sale is done in the showroom, the second in the service department. I've got 3 BMW Motorrad dealers in 13 miles distance, but prefer the dealer 50 miles away for exactly that reason.

Some of your problems are easily mended :
- recalibrating the fuel gauge is a simple thing, lots of R12GS's have this problem, mine had it too, it isn't a great deal for your dealer, but it seems he can't be bothered. That, to me , is a clear sign that you should change dealer.
- leaky front tyre : I had the same with Tourance EXP. My tyreman (not BMW) observed that some of the rubber 'anntennas' (sorry don't know how to put it, you know the small thingys that stick out from a new tyre) got stuck between wheel rim, creating small openings where air could escape. He took the tyre off, and sandpapered these 'antennas' off. Excellent service, problem solved.
- juddering brakes : BMW changed the way the disks are mounted to the wheel, do a search, you'll find pictures.
- topbox/sidecases : try out different products, and you may get a result. Best try product on bottom side first; some products will worsen the look.
- wear at frame from left boot : I put some selfadhesive transparant plastic on frame on second R12GS. The first R12GS had taught me a lesson.
- there's quite a bit of play in the drivetrain; chains seem to have less play.

Well, this adresses some of the issues, good luck on the others.
One can argue about cosmetic problems, but as I said I think you have the right to complain at these prices.
And FWIW I wouldn't like a bike cutting out either.

I vowed never to cross John Clarks door again, I am completely convinced they are not vaguely interested in the Bikes any more, they put up with it because they have to.............

It is a pain travelling from down from Aberdeen to Edinburgh, for the most things, but they will not see my bike again. I have bought a lot of bikes from them. but they really do not care!

I bought a Mini from them as well, and they could not have been more professional. So if they can do that with cars................... :nenau

From a very bitter and twisted customer :pullface

You really need to speak to Brian ( service manager ) at Dundee, they have dealt with my previous GS and current K1200 GT and the service / customer commitment has been first class. For example last summer some clown ( real tossser ! ) reversed over my GT whilst it was parked in a car park in Inveraray causing a great deal of damage to the whole of the nearside inc fairing and pannier. This occured just three weeks prior to our two week holiday to the Alps. Brian arranged the insurance repairs including new helmets
( fastened on the seats hence damage ) with a promise of a loan bike for the holiday if our GT couldn`t be repaired in time, however the whole repair with all new parts was completed with three days to spare prior the our holiday. He kept us fully informed throughout the work.
I suppose everyone can have an " off day " but he does seem to go the extra mile if he can . Any business is only as good as its last dealings you have with them so give em a try.

Shinyface

What, if like I did, you bought the bike privately but it's still under manufacturers warranty?

I have still had items replaced by a dealer, who had no contract with me, but still billed BMW for the work.:nenau

Am I right in thinking it makes no odds where you purchased your bike from, the BMW warranty applies to the bike and is covered by BMW UK, any warranty work undertaken by a dealer is charged by the dealer to BMW UK, therefore a decent dealer should persue any warranty claim regardless of where the bike was purchased from.

As an example of priceless dealer service Chandlers at Brighton raised a warranty claim against the paintwork by the left foot peg on my 09 GSA purchased from Coopers in Tunbridge Wells. When BMW UK refused to rectify the problem under warranty Chandlers had the defect rectified by their workshop at no charge to me. As I say priceless service from this fledgling dealership.

Looks like im definately gonna have a fight on my hands.

Heard back from JC Aberdeen and bmw customer services got back to them and they will fix some issues (albeit, im fairly convinced they havnt got it square in their head what they're fixing, even after being there for 4 hours to discuss), but they are not fixing the rubbed through paint (and consequently rust) on the nearside frame centre beside my boot, the rusty rear foot peg hangers, the orange with rust centre stand or the heavily corroded alu panniers.

Im planning my 'attack' but its probably gonna get ugly and fruitless. The bike is on 'select' so im unsure as yet where i stand with sale of goods and recorded delivery letters etc.

ho hum.

+1 to that :thumb2

I can't believe that some riders on here would think it's OK for an '09 bike to deteriorate that fast... and then have a negative attitude from the Dealer :blast

Just not good enough!!!

Agreed. The idea that you should expect a lot of corrosion on a 12k mile 6 month old one s just laughable, too.

I've never particularly believed the guff that either the bikes are beautifully made, or that the dealers will smilingly fix every issue under warranty and never try to wriggle out if they can.

I still love mine, but my first one appeared to have been bolted together and painted by monkeys, and the litany of problems took a lot of nagging to get half fixed.

I know that some people don't care if the bike corrodes and rusts, but that's no reason to tell other people that they should take such crappy quality lying down.
