Any advice greatfully accepted.

Drove bike into shed ,wife comes home an hour later "do you know you have an oil leak" obviously I did not, so panic what do i need to do?

seems to be coming from the final drive drain plug
also seems to be a lot of residue around the nut on the inside of the swing arm
but as everything is coated its hard to say.
It had coated the right side of tyre /caliper and pooled on right side of wheel rim ,which sugests this nut on the inside as its in line with pools

any help would be appreciated
piss taking remarks would not

:beerjug:Brian...

hhhhhhmmmmmmm !!!!

is it a 1200 by any chance :nenau:nenau

ahhh , just noticed which section it's posted in: blast:blast

sounds like you've blown a seal :D:D

Get bike on centre stand and get squeazy and get the tyre where the oil came in contact well scrubbed and cleaned and rinsed off

AS to the Final drive you will have to assess where the oils coming from yourself or supply us with photos With the wheel off!

Before you slack wheel bolts is there any play in the wheel??? :hide

We had a rear drive on a ride dripping oil, I assumed it was rear bearing / seal it turned out the drain plug was not tight, just dripping!!!!

If we are talking the rubber gaiter, Noooooo you have an issue, and looks like dealer / independant....:augie

No not gaiter, circular cover on inside of wheel carrier, remove it and you can see ball bearings it looks like the carrier for the balls has broken up,
(like I know what I'm talking about)

Brian..

My workshop is just down the road from Chester if you need a big hammer.

Give me a bell on 01829 771040 tomorrow some time:beerjug:

thats why I said what I said, the circular bearing carrier is neither rubber or plastic:augie

The cover is actually the oil seal. There's a sticky at the top of this section called how to check your final drive bearingc (or something similar - posting this from a phone so I can't navigate around very easily). Take a look and you should see some familiar things! If you're a novice it's probably best to either find someone who can give you a hand - Vern? Or trust it to an independent BMW man.

Edit (pushing the limits of my phone here!) - the link to the bearing thread: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159180

My first one failed at 26,500 miles, just out of warranty as well. As it was at work with access to tools I decided to do it myself. That one lasted over 34,000 miles and I just used the original shims.

The parts aren't expensive and will probably be readily available from the nearest BMW dealer. You will need a puller of some kind unless you are a mechanical genious like Steptoe who can do this at the road side with a few tyre levers. (There was a thread on Advrider.com but I can't find it.)

This may help:- http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/ORDBBR%201.0.pdf
