t may not seem like it but when i end up with a post on here in my mind I always try and focus on the positives, and mention in a sort of passing manner, whats bugging me. This time I'm determined thats what I'm going to do so here goes.
2010 GS1200, love it to bits, its comfortable, its fast, within the reasonable constraints of running it in, It sounds really quite good, looks fantastic, and so far I dont have a bad word to say about it.......... BUT ( you're gonna love this!!!) If i told you it had used 2 LITRES OF OIL IN 200 MILES, I suspect you might think i had got something wrong somewhere. I hate assumptions but i am told that the bike takes 4 litres. this fills the sight glass when full, and did when i picked the bike up. 200 miles later (223 to be precise) Did the usual oil check and the sight glass is now half full, equating to about 2 litres of oil left, and yes i did check it when warm and did everything i was told to do... Phoned BMW assist who sent out a very nice chap in a van. Thought he would run the bike check the oil and have a look for the vibes through the handlebars that i am sure it didnt do when it was new.(ONLY at certain revs) WRONG!!!!!. I was told that he's not gonna attempt to fix it as he's not "BMW Trained" and if he puts oil in it and it goes bang later on then BMW will try and wriggle out of getting it sorted under warranty as it was meddled with by a non BMW trained person.
He also told me, in his exact words"Between me and you this isnt the first 4 valve engine that I've been called out to. BMW are trying to hush it up and not create a fuss."
Anyway Bahnstormers have it now. I'm waiting to get it back, and I will be really quite happy to get back on it, as I'm finding I tend to enjoy riding it, even if it is dark and cold and quite shitty weather. Just cant stay off it to be honest, so there you go started on a positive told the facts as I see them and ended on a positive,as thats the way I feel about this bike, and wouldnt swap it for anything else. Bahnstormers have been really quite good, taking the bike at (VERY) short notice and also agreeing to deliver it back to me. I just feel like they are doing everything they can for me unlike a certain other dealership would probably have done!!.....
there you go, job done item posted and i await your comments with REGARDS oil consumption et al....
