Am I missing something here? 200 miles in and this is the state of the panniers....spoke to BMW Hamilton and "they all do that", so ask's I, what will they be like in 10000 miles.....Worse than they are was the reply...

Apparently they aren't anodised and they all do this, despite me being a major shareholder in the ACF50 franchise it seems.....

Anyone else having a similar issue?

I'm shocked ... I'm not an expert ... but how old is the bike ? 200 miles could be a year of ownership.

I notice you are in Ayrshire , lucky ! Great place to live.
Last week I was in Arran , there was 75 mph salt, spray and high winds blasting over the Island , glad my bike wasn't exposed to that !

I know they do go a bit funny after a while but that's not right!

At 200 miles that is shocking !
Never mind "they all do that sir" bollocks get them replaced under warranty

That's dreadful!

Any 'Dealer' that finds that acceptable, and makes excuses for it, is not 'on your side', and should therefore be avoided...

The panniers need to be replaced, but evidently as it's a shoddy product, the same thing will very probably happen again!

yeah if you wanted to keep them looking nice, you'd have to lacquer them straight out the showroom. my top box is the colour of corrosion these days... Panniers only used twice.

Made by Touratech for BMW allegedly, It will be in for its first service soon, I will be taking my stampy shoes me thinks.....I knew I should have waited for the Africa Twin, we have had a lot of issues of a similar nature with a new 3 series too....I think the bean counters have the helm in BMW at the moment

My 2006 GSA12 was delivered with rusty pannier frames. My arrogant dealer said that was normal !!!!!
I got them changed under warranty but it's shocking how BMW still produce such shite and expect punters to put up with it !!! One of the reasons why I can't see myself ever buying another BMW ever again.

Be careful saying stuff like that on here !! Some people are very protective of their rusty GSs !!!!

Uncoated Aluminium + salt = corrosion, why the surprise?

Get painted ones or use the plastic Varios.

That's no surprise...but you'd think for a premium product they'd be coated from new

Possibly but it is clear to any buyer that they are plain Aluminium alloy so buyer beware.

Ali does that. The sheetmetal is untreated on the BMW/Touratech boxes. Corrosion manifests itself and appears as a white powder where the oxidisation occurs. Fear not. The thin layer of oxidisation is actually a barrier that stops further corrosion. Bilt Hamber clear corrosion inhibitor or ACF will do a good job of protecting the bare metal. I have heard good reports of the Bilt Hamber and it is a waxy spray unlike the oily spray of ACF 50. You are welcome to help yourself to my ACF 50.

Luckily I have taken precautions :D

Indeed and if you don't want to coat or wrap them then wash after every ride if there is salt on the roads.

That's a crackin job, it looks super.
Wrapped??

Sent using a Jedi mind trick!

That looks appalling. The old ones on my old twincam looked a lot better than yours when I traded it
in and they were 4 years old!

I quite like the corrosion look, that fresh new look doesn't do it for me, I like it to look like I'm at ease with the decaying of a product rather than chasing my arse to make things look like they are brand for their entire life. The previous owner of my bike was paranoid about the condition it appeared to be in, I however am cool with ageing and degradation, I will of owned the bike for ten years this year so it becomes irrelevant a spot of rust or two.. This is in no way criticism of the op just another view.
