200 miles in........panniers already corroding!

That looks appalling. The old ones on my old twincam looked a lot better than yours when I traded it
in and they were 4 years old!

If you blast aluminium with road salt and then leave you bike in the garage overnight without washing it off then it WILL corrode, it is basic chemistry and the way the Universe works.

The photo makes it look ace. It is Plastidip and my first time using it so I expect a few blemishes in the finish. And there is :blast

Be careful saying stuff like that on here !! Some people are very protective of their rusty GSs !!!!

Rust??????

No rust here, 12 years old 55k ridden all year :)

The 1150 standard panniers were painted, not bare Al alloy.

PS. Have you protected the lower fork legs?

Yes but not me

Previous owner did, I wouldn't have been arsed if I'm honest

Ok I can understand why he did it because they are one of the few corrosion hot spots?

To be honest

There is always rust mate, just well hidden via hammerite and acf50.

I just wet and dry the golden spots every year after a deep clean and get the hammerite out and an art brush to keep those small areas in check.

There's no rust on it now but in a year's time ill be doing the same :(

Yep it's all about how one looks after a bike, if you keep on top of stuff they will remain good for years but if you neglect them even new bikes can look tatty very quickly.

Beautiful, from the time when BMW made decent bikes and used quality products until lemmings like Engineer arrived on the scene which meant that BMW could raise the price and lower the quality knowing that there were idiots out there who would blindly buy whatever they made..............

One of the reasons manufacturers struggle with finishes these days is that RoHS requirements have become very strict, but an educated person would know that - but now that I have explained it to you, you now also know :)

Made by Touratech for BMW allegedly, It will be in for its first service soon, I will be taking my stampy shoes me thinks.....I knew I should have waited for the Africa Twin, we have had a lot of issues of a similar nature with a new 3 series too....I think the bean counters have the helm in BMW at the moment

Have they actually seen the panniers or pictures of the marks. Completely unacceptable so early on imho esp given how much this shit all costs. I've not had problems like that with the tin boxes when I had them.

Funny then that my KTM that's now been ridden through two winters still comes up like new.........

So does my GSA. And it's never seen acf50.;)

Funny how Touratech panniers going rusty makes all the GS corrosion shit stirring start again.
