Compresing PDF files

I need to upload PDF files in a web site. The document (containing images) is created on Word x Windows and saved as PDF Using Acrobat 6.0 (full version)


Is it posible to save the doc with optimum compresion to minimize the file size? How?

I also have something call "Acrobat Distiller" WTF is that?
For me "distiller" means moonlighting nice bourbon in the Kentucky hills...

Sorry Yosi but the pdf files are pretty well compressed alraedy and you'll only save a handful of bytes by compressing them further.

I think Acrobat Distiller is the program that creates the pdf files from your input data.

You got to pay for Distiller.

Go to OpenOffice.org, download the free office program. They are compatible with M$ OFFice (words etc), and they can save in PDF format.

But, Iain is right, PDF is already compressed. Better is to zip or rar the file.

The size of the PDF depends upon the settings in Distiller.

From your word document, go to File, Print, then select Acrobat Distiller as the printer. Click on Properties, then Adobe PDF settings.

Select 'screen' which is normally the lowest resolution and see what you get when the PDF is created.

If that's not right you can manually adjust by going into 'edit conversion settings'.

The best thing to do is work on the size of the word document itself. Doing this is a bit hard.
Best bet is to use "something else" to create the document in. Open-office is good (free), and things like quark express may do it too (pay).
Especially the size of the images - have you compressed and adjusted their resolution down before putting them into word?
