Hi all, having travelled thru numerous pages on the internet, i want to build a new computer, done it before ,no probs.
i have a case with a atx form factor, and a pentium 4 power supply lead.
whats the best combination to get,i have a cd/dvd rom, case, keyboard etc, i just want to upgrade the motherboard, ram and cpu.i notice the modern units now all use sata, so i guess ill have to change the hard drive too, ah well.ive have been using scan computers for ages with no probs: http://www.scan.co.uk/
any advice??
many thanks Paul

You may find your power supply is no good, most modern motherboards use a 24 pin adapter yours is probably 20 pin

In the long run I think I would build it all new, case (unless you have a nice top end case), psu (definetly), etc etc, Its not a lot of money in the run of things and you'll know its all good to go .

motherboards do have an IDE drive and some have two so you may be ok, just check the spec, alternatively use a new sata drive and slave the old one on the CD IDE cable to get your stuff off

I tend to use ASUS motherboards cause they are usually pretty good but others may have others they prefer

stuff in as much RAM as the thing will take:beerjug:
