Connected App route guidance keeps locking

For a day or two now, if I go off route when navigating using the Connected app, it locks up. It doesn’t recalculate, the speed limit info on the TFT stops changing, and I don’t seem to be able to cancel the route using the wonder wheel and the TFT. The recorded route is shown simply as a couple of straight lines, even though the “Total distance“ displayed in the app’s trip record is the correct distance. Could it be losing the GPS connection as soon as I deviate from the original calculated route?

I have an Android phone, which was last updated yesterday, 16.05.2023. I can’t recall whether I was having the problems with navigation locking up before the update, but for a couple of weeks now I have definitely been finding that major parts of trips are displayed on the recorded trip map as just a straight line. The app’s permission setting for location is set to “Always”. The app always seems to connect with the TFT, and if I’m not using it for navigation, the speed limit indication is correct all the time, changing as the posted speed limit changes on the road.

Has anyone else experienced these problems. Could the Android update be at fault?

I’d start by deleting the app completely and then reinstalling it. Does that mend the problem?

I’ll give that a try, Wapping, and report back in a few days time

Wapping, thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, deleting and reinstalling the app hasn’t worked. I did another trip today. As before, the navigation locked up, and the speed limit display showed only “- -“. Again it was a fair distance into the journey, but this time, as far as I’m aware, I hadn’t deviated from the planned route. Waze worked flawlessly on the same route on the same phone at the same time, and my Zumo XT mounted right next to the phone also had no problems.
Any other suggestions out there would be welcome. In the meantime, I’ll run a few more tests to confirm exactly what combination of events may be causing the problem.

The symptom you described (displaying -- for the speed limit) happened to me recently when I crossed into Belgium, the maps for which I had forgotten to install. Which makes me wonder whether this might be map-related. When you deleted the app and reinstalled, did you also delete the app's data?

Maybe removing and re-adding the relevant map might be worth a shot?

I’m pretty sure I’ve found out what was causing the problems with the Connected app. On my Android phone there is a “Battery” setting which seems to be set to Optimised” by default. I switched this to ”Unrestricted”, and the problems seem to have disappeared. The app worked faultlessly during 4 day trip to France over the past weekend. On my phone this setting is located in Settings/Apps/Connected/Battery.
