"Connected" Phone mount - Repair - Broken clip

Has anyone (like me) had the horizontal clip on the "Connected" phone mount break whilst trying to put their phone into it?
I wouldn't be so miffed if I was mistreating it or trying to fit a mahoosive phone into it... But I wasn't. I hadn't even got it open far enough to clip the hone in!
Be nice to have some background before TRYING to get BMW to help.

There are several internet reports on the thing breaking.

Is this any good for repairing it:

The part / part number shown in the video, looks like it’s an official BMW kit. No doubt there will be knock-off copies around, too.
