Connected ride cradle

Hi all, anyone tried one of these cradles out? Trying to weigh up Nav V/VI vs the connected ride cradle. Bike is a 2014 model and comes with Nav prep.

I’ve got one and have found it to be a good solution, so far my iPhone 11 camera has not died so hoping that situation does not change.
Ideally I would have the connected navigator but it’s over £600 which is way too much for me, not particularly impressed with the option of faffing around to get a zumo XT on there instead.
Main issue at the moment is the connected ride app which has gone rather wrong following the recent version change - there’s a separate thread going on that subject but I expect BMW will fix the new bugs and release an update soon.
Overall I find it to be a satisfactory and cheaper navigation solution - only caveat being if it kills my iPhone it ‘s going in the bin for a Garmin XT2!

I have one but it won't fit my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I prefer the Nav VI anyway. The cradle will allow you to use the wheel but only for the property connected app. Ideally, if 3rd party Nav apps such as MRA etc could utilise the wheel it may be worth getting a phone that fits.

Good point re phone fitting. I have no idea if my s21 ultra will fit. Tbh for the price of these cradles I could probably get a used nav V or VI on here.

3D AM mount, clicks in to the OEM nav mount, attach Garmin baseplate and click on the Garmin.

As for the connected ride cradle, I have one of those too and find it useful to zoom in and out with the wonder wheel, and select pre programmed destinations on the fly... Or today I used Google maps whilst charging the phone with the wireless charging.

Why have both?
I was warned about mobiles overheating when used as navs in hot weather so I got a specific tool for the job. We saw 38°c in Italy last summer.

Max and Min phone size for the cradle, copied and pasted from the BMW site. "Check that the cradle is suitable for the size of your smartphone: suitable minimum sizes 130.1 x 65.5 x 6.9 mm, suitable maximum sizes 162.5 x 78.1 x 8.8 mm. If your smartphone is smaller than any of the minimum sizes or larger than any of the maximum sizes stated here, it is not intended for use in the ConnectedRide Cradle"
Thinking of buying a secondhand one to try and using a cheap phone in it, don't want to break my iPhone camera.

The downside would be not being able to take and receive calls on my usual number as the eSim is in my iPhone. I wonder if I can have two identical eSims on two different phones and switch between them as required. Any advice/knowledge shared would be appreciated.

Put the cheap phone (sans sim) in the cradle and your iPhone in a secure pocket. Tether the cheapo to the iPhone and away you go.

Found out on BMW site that it will when I looked yesterday, cheers though. Currently got one on the way which I've bought from here. Does it show your speed like the Navs do? Only bug bear of the bike for me really is the lack of a proper digital speedo. I'm rubbish at reading the speedo dials after having digital ones for last 4 years.

The “Foxwolf” ones from Ali Express are great, fit straight into the BMW Nav Mount & allow wireless charging for your phone. Only downer is lack of “whiz wheel” control but for £15 they are great. I’ve bought 2 so far one for my GS & another for my friend’s XR. Mine was an earlier model with a slightly different clamp & had to Stanley knife some rubber away because it pressed on the volume rocker switch but looks like the current ones don’t have such an issue.
I’ve been running Myroute-app on my phone which allows constant scrolling real time position of where you are on screen like a Sat Nav does! (Google maps only show this during a route)

The cradle has its uses, but it is possible to cook a phone if using a nav programme and charging in direct sunlight (high thirties in Spain) I now have a new phone. This is first hand experience.
Last year I used Samsung s10/Tomtom app/and Quadlock with a vibration damper and wireless charging and prefer it to the connected ride cradle. This was used in high temperatures without issue.
I dont like the connected ride navigation app as it is very basic, but also find the instructions coming up on the GS dash rather distracting.

+1 I bought one after checking it fitted in the cradle. It did, only just as the camera surround made it sit higher on the one side. Unfortunately it won't charge an iPhone 14 pro max. The charge light would come on but only stay on for seconds before going off again. I challenged BMW about this they said it was an Apple issue and I would have to sort it through Apple. Digging deeper, I was then informed by BMW that "they" would have to do some sort of software update on the bike to get it to charge...... If I was willing to wait 2 months to get it looked at!!! Got my money back and stuck with my Nav VI.

I've had one for a while and use TomTom Go for nav. Any phone in direct sunlight is at risk of overheating and [inefficient] wireless charging compounds this. When in warmer places, I use a cable to reduce heating and having a slightly tinted Adventure screen on the bike itself helps a little, but totally dependant on the angle of the sun. At least being in the open it's better than the sealed cases for heat dissipation. Actually, I don't use any case at all on the bike.

On hot sunny days I have also dropped the phone's screen resolution down to reduce processor work and put the phone performance into Light to manage heat (It's a Samsung).
