Consensus on the actual model ?

So, ordered a nice black top yoke from Kevil's Speedshop ( amazing how many of these suppliers suddenly don't have the item in stock ) some almost straight drag bars
and a few other little goodies. Hopefully after a good service and mooch around the electrics I can then sort the front steering out. May fit some YSS rear shocks if they are needed.
Also, although tyre tread is unworn, the ageing tyrewall cracks are frightening !! Maybe TKC 80's are the way to go......
70’s are very good!

Continental classics?
It's weird. Tyres fitted are :- front 3.60 H 19 rear :- 4.25/85 H 18

Tyres that should be fitted are front:- 3.25 H 19 and rear :- 4.00 H 18

I've settled for Michelin Road Classics 👍

Moving on at healthy pace  New handlebars, top yoke handgrips etc. Not in the p[ics but fitted round rocker covers ( whilst off adjusted the valve clearances - always thought the pinch bolts on the rocker arms faced outwards but that is for post 1980 apparently). New tyres/tubes and single caliper cleaned up. ALL oils and filters replaced. Lot's of stainless bolts  New YSS rear shocks.
Electronic ignition...anyone know what make etc this is?
So getting there...even insurance was only £44 :DD . Will free tax it as soon as V5c arrives.

Lookin good 👍

I must admit I always thought the split in the rocker support blocks faced outward ?

Love your dog 😉

Agreed,rocker support posts incorrect,
I’d take a good look at the rocker shafts as well to check the oil supply drillings are in the correct place
Fraction more vertical play in the rocker shafts than I'd like ( when I did the valve clearances yesterday ) but plenty of oil being forced out when rocker moved up and down. I never have liked re-torquing airhead cylinder nuts down in case the dowels shear at the crankcase ( although she has had new piston rings - garage fitted - about 100 miles back ).
Just need to find the correct cylinder head torque for a 1977 R80/7 now !

Storm Floris about to hit so wifey boxed some of my bikes in last night, so no maintenance today ! :ROFLMAO:

If you look at the visible tops of the rocker shafts they are different.
I suspect they are not fitted correctly.
One might be upside down?
The oil drilling should align with the top post and exit on the outside of the shaft to supply the load side of the rocker arm bearing

Thanks Mikey, very much appreciated. Once Madam has removed all her flora I'll take both covers off and see if one side is different from the other. Luckily bike has only done about 100 miles since the new rings went in. Do you know if 39 nm's is the correct torque for the cylinder head bolts?

Kenny, all the torque information is in the Haynes manual - suggest you get one. For pre-1981 the first stage is 15Nm, 2nd is 35Nm, 3rd is 40Nm and standard stetting is 38-42Nm. For post-1981 models it's 15, 25, 35 and 35-39 respectively. So don't go straight for the max. If you let someone know the engine number we can all find out whether what you have is pre- or post- 1981.

I'll agree with Mikeyboy that your rocker shafts have not been installed properly and you are heading for a top-end rebuild (soon) if it is left like that. Check the other side.

Got back a little late but took the rocker covers off both sides to see if the rocker arms are mounted the same ! :sneaky:

Some pics. Pleanty of oil in there and rocker bolts etc ( as stated earlier I'd prefer not to disturb an old engine head bolts unless absolutely necessary:))

No centre punch markings on a R80/7

Other side just as mysterious !!nearside lower.jpg

It’s obviously been messed with as you can see the witness marks on the rocker shaft support posts.
Personally,I’d strip it all off for a good looksee and reassemble correctly.
For the cost of a top end gasket set I’d pull the heads and barrels anyway.
My spider senses and alarm bells would be on high alert seeing what I’ve noticed already .🤪
But ,that’s just me.🤓
Even the dog is not impressed😆

Disappointed in that dog ! :D
Bike was fettled with new piston rings 100 miles ago by a 'professional' motorcycle garage in Liverpool. Bike starts and runs superbly:unsure: I noticed the wear rings and deduced the mounting blocks had been turned upside down etc. I may start her up ( quickly and shortly !! ) with the rocker covers off ( never done this before ) and see if oil runs down in the rocker spindles ( all looks nice and lubed in there ). Now to find a few copies of the Liverpool Echo to mop up with tomorrow :ROFLMAO:

Thank you. On the invoice they have ordered a length of s/s bar so probably made three of the rocker pivots themselves. I'll replace them with OE pivots and sort it out properly. Hopefully mikey or Motorworks may have some S/H ones👍. Fortunately the bike has been hardly run since this bodge.
