No, they are not dual compound in the traditional sense. Unlike some (real dual compound) tyres you will not find a step in grip OR a line developing in the compound joint after some use. I have seen this with other makes but not these.Well I had them fitted and after a couple of days, wet and dry - I like them. The 4's are supposed to be a dual compound 'hyper touring' tyre more resistant t squaring off and better wet weather grip than the 3's - lots of marketing hype, but we shall see after my June trip to Troyes.
Thanks for that - they were described on a Germán video as dual compound with them being tested on a R1250GS. Multi-grip is a better description. No, they are not dual compound in the traditional sense. They are single compound tyres with a different curing process to arrive at a softer tread on the edges and more hard wearing centre.

I think the 4's have only recently become available - not done many miles on them yet but so far I am very happy with them.I have been a big fan of the 3s. Used them on 1290gt, r1200gs and on to my second pair on the 1250gs.
I could not find 4s here at the back end of last year, so had to ‘make do’ with the rather good ‘old tech’! The sipes not running to the edge on the back tyre should be an improvement though on the new ones, as the 3s have a tendency to lift a little bit on the edge of the tyre with hard use.
What about an up date after your trip. ThanksWell I had them fitted and after a couple of days, wet and dry - I like them. No issues with them, felt fab to start with but they are squaring off just as fast as any other tyre I have had, in spite of the so called softer edges, harder middle claim. What about an up date after your trip. Thanks
