For you information.
Rear tyre tread depth measured from the wear marker.

V speed rating 149mph 8mm.
W speed rating 168mph 6mm.

I have ridden on both types and can tell no difference in feel, grip etc.
The mileage I get is 6000mls V rated and 4000mls from the W rated.
The cost is about the same.
Suppliers will send out W rated unless you specify otherwise.

Are there any other differences between V & W such as, for instance, sidewall stiffness?

Andres

Standard for the Gs is V rated, standard for the Ktm 1290 and V4 multi W rated . I chose to use the W rated for the multi as this is the oem as per the op it’s a speed rate.
I alway got V rated off my bike shop as that was the recommended spec for the GS .
Not noticed any difference as well between the two so far , only thing is the V4 seems a bit better on the rear wear as it’s not as torquey at low revs as the Bm and perhaps the electronics are kinder to the rubber . Early days yet as only done 400 on the CTA 3 on the multi

my friend use this tyre 3 time now, he use W one time say it was like a glue race tyre very nice but use a little quickly, 2nd he use a V as no W in stock, he say first he think tyre have problem, big different turn in because sidewall harder, after a few hundred km,s he got used to tyre and tyre was also stick like glue, now he only use V to get more life from tyre, I still have life in Dunlop meridian very good tyre also.

Do they do an H rated one for me? :D

I am on some very early Anakee 3s that I got from Micky, a pair that were lying in someone's shed for a few years and never got used.... I am still on them, they went on at just over 25,000 miles I have just clocked up 40,000 miles this weekend and there is still a good couple of thousand left in them. The date stamp says 2015, but I have only had them 2 years. :P

I’m trying to track down some Conti Trail Attack 3’s for my 2020 Honda Africa but they seem to be in short supply.
Can anyone on here recommend a reputable U.K. internet supply that they’ve used which I can then try.

Stick, what happened to the PS2s?

First impressions were good and have no issues with them , I prefer the TA3 as I find the front turns faster , that’s all , the ST2 is more neutral . Keeping them for a two up trip as only done 600 miles , great set tho . The TA3 just suits me and my style of riding . One little thing I did find was the ST2 did track a bit on the over banding and white lines , this the TA3 does not do . Not horrendous but noticeable.

Odd isn’t it, how we all feel different things through the tyres? My CTA3s do track over white lines and over banding! Still love them though.

BikespeedUK used them many times.

CTA3 on both my bikes. very impressed, I will be sticking with them. On the GS I'm on 6000 miles and still have plenty of tread left

OP - thanks for raising this, definitely V rated :)

Interesting, ta.
Must check what I’ve got on my 701LR as I’m away on it at the mo.
I really wanted Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs but they don’t make the rear size so had to go with CTA3s.
Loved CTA2s for many years but never totally gelled with the 3s on my ATAS, much preferring the STRs.
Will be putting over 2000 miles on the 701 in the next 10 days so will see how they go.

Got CTA3s on my GS at the moment, haven’t really pushed them much but so far they seem great, work well in the rain

They replaced CRA3s which were fantastic so expecting at least as good

Depends where you ride !

The CTAs are obviously a compromise of something like 80/20 road/off-road .
The CRAs are obviously 100% a road tyre, hence the name . So the latter should perform better if you solely ride on tarmac .
