Conti Trail Attack 3 Rear tyre tread depth

Anybody on here know what tread depth you get on a front TA3 when new?

I believe it is 8mm (on a V rated tyre). Same as on the rear. I've got one in the garage i'll check later on, and update if it's less.

I just had new Trail Attack 3's fitted front and rear to my R1250GSA (approved-used) by the dealership and they are excellent, very stable, turn-in is smooth and controlled unlike the (worn) Annakees it was fitted with at point of sale/test ride. They have loads of dry grip although I haven't ridden in the wet yet, and are amazingly quiet unlike the Michelin Road 5 I last used (noisy front).

Lots of tread depth at 6mm front/8mm rear (V-rated).

I think I am going to like these tyres very much, thanks for the recommend. :thumb2

For you information.
Rear tyre tread depth measured from the wear marker.

V speed rating 149mph 8mm.
W speed rating 168mph 6mm.

I have ridden on both types and can tell no difference in feel, grip etc.
The mileage I get is 6000mls V rated and 4000mls from the W rated.
The cost is about the same.
Suppliers will send out W rated unless you specify otherwise.
CPJS, how did you find this info? Looking online for tech specs but nothing comes up.

Depends where you ride !

The CTAs are obviously a compromise of something like 80/20 road/off-road .
The CRAs are obviously 100% a road tyre, hence the name . So the latter should perform better if you solely ride on tarmac .
Have only ever used CTA's and I haven't felt the need to try CRA's although maybe I just ride like a girl..........

Agree , I have tried the RA3 and 4 went back to the TA 3 fantastic tyres .
What does Arsey Know , he wears a cardigan ….. the TA3 is everything you need .
No girl riding here , the TA 3 just works in all situations, well maybe not on track as the tread pattern causes issues as over heats , but it will on a track with constant and repetitive corners and time scale .

Just bought a pair from Bikespeed for my XT. Theyre image shows CTA2’s, but I checked before buying and they assured me I’d get 3s and that is what turned up yesterday. £225......cracking price. Two Wheels wanted £245.
Forgot I posted in this thread. I fitted this first pair to me XT1200 after the OE Bridgestones had done around 6k. OMG what a difference. The stones must have got so heavy, I nearly tipped off the first kink in the road off my estate, I turned in as usual and nearly turned 90degrees to the opposite kurb, or at least it felt like it. Took me a good half a day to get use to the whole lightness of the bike. And I consider I’m well use to changes of old to new tyres, riding different bikes back to back (XT12, Pan1300, FJR and old R850GS).
This first pair did about 6k when I was due to head for Spain for 10days, the rear could probably have made it to 7k, but I fitted a new rear for that trip. These two then did another 6k (so the front had done 12k, never managed that before) when earlier this summer, a three week trip to the highlands needed newer tyres. I’d had a pair of old spec tourances in the loft (£130 from M+P back in about 2020) that I’d bought for my old GS, and decided they needed using before getting too old. I’d had these on all 4 of the GSs I’ve owned over the years, but can’t recall how bloody noisy they are. The grip was as good as ever, in all weathers, but the whine….
These have now done 6k after Scotland and another Spain trip earlier this month. The fronts almost worn out and has had an advisory at the Mot last week. The rears still got a good few mm left, so I’m hoping the front lasts enough to wear the rear out. My mate gave me a spare rear with about 4mm on it, but I’d need to buy a front to go with it so not sure I’ll get to use it now.
A few months back someone on here pointed us to a black circles deal that got me a new pair of TA3s for £235, and a few weeks after that I saw an M+P offer for a second rear for £140, so bought one. I’ve still got the second rear that I took off early summer with about 3mm left too. So not quite sure what order I’ll use them in, but I’m good for quite a few miles to come :)

Wow good info !
(FWIW I recently punctured a 1 week old CTA2 V rated, measured similarly at 8mm tread depth, is so great that my stop n go applicator struggled to get the mushroom properly in ! )
