Continental TKC80's advice please ?

Hi All,

A quick question please.

I am in the process of ordering a pair of TKC 80's for my 2005 1150GSA and I notice that Continental have 2 listings of the same tyre ?

One has a "DOT 2011" listing and the other which is a little cheaper has a "M+S" listing.

Can anyone explain what this difference refers to please because the tyres appear identical otherwise ?

DOTAbbreviation for Department Of Transportation = US Ministry of Transport. Proof that the tyre meets the regulations in the USA and Canada

M&S means they're a more refined kind of tyre with more quality ingredients.
It means "Mud + Snow". Probably, not definitely, a winter tyre. I've seen it as an option on K60s too.

The DOT 2011 is warning you that the tyre is already 6 years old. I think there's some guidance on maximum age of tyres.

Yes I agree but "Tyreleader" online had the same identical TKC80 listed twice, with the only difference being one listed as DOT 2011 and the other M+S but the later was £4 cheaper !!

I have since checked again on their website and now it only shows one tyre, the M+S, so it must have been a mistake on their website, that they have now since corrected.

Problem sorted and tyres ordered, many thanks for your assistance chaps

Are really gona use the thread of the TKC80? You now have the TKC70, that are still good for off road but with better grip in the wet!
