Continental Trail Attacks

Just had a set of Trail Attacks fitted to my 2010 GSA ... M&P were doing a pair for £165 .... just checked and they've now gone up to £189 ....
They've made a massive difference to the bike ... it just drops into corners now and feels a lot more planted ...

Just wondering what pressure people are running these at ?? Only ask because i've noticed a shimmy from the front end around 50 - 60mph now ... suspect it's tyre pressure related ...

Bar 2.2 front 2.5 rear solo and 2 up and never had a problem. Pricewise mine are just over euros 300 fitted here :(

Had mine replaced today. Originally fitted July 09 and covered 11600 miles. Nicely worn and still rounded. Chuffed with them really. Replacements are the same again of course. :thumb2

Forgot to say that nearly 2k miles of those were on autoroutes between here and northern France. I well remember in the 80,s 90,s the Metzelers on my K1100,s were shot after a 3k tour and back then I recall them being around a ton each front and rear. You get more for your money nowadays I reckon. :thumb2

Tyres have come on leaps and bounds over the last ten years or so. And I guess we have WSB and MotoGP to thank for that .... :thumb2

Shame on you, man.....you've missed out on some of the finest riding in the world.....:rob

you're right, of course.

i must come up there sometime, it's just such a long way, and a mostly horrible one at that :(

Did a big loop in scotland a couple of years ago and I have to say, the roads were brill. Well worth the Slog up the A1 for ... :)

I've never made the rear tyre on a bike with c. 100 bhp last much more than 4.5K miles.

However, there's an enormous disparity between the wear rates of motorcycle tyres when ridden on smooth road surfaces and on fine, grippy, Scottish tarmacadam.

Yep I remember those Scottish roads...fantastic :thumb. Ours down here dont melt at all.....but theres the downside

SWMBO and I drove down from Edinburgh to Orgiva and Carataunas in the Las Alpujarras, in the car, a few years back.

Making progress along the mountain roads in my usual enthusiastic manner, my Golf suddenly let go at the rear and went sideways on a 90 deg right-hander. I caught it after a couple of slaps right and left and carried on. Coming back on the same bit of road, I stopped at that corner and discovered that the road surface was covered in fine mica dust from the rocks on the verges.

I remember thinking, at the time, that if we'd been on our bikes we'd have been sliding up the road.

Back to the topic :D. FWIW I used trail attacks for a couple of years and do think they're the best of the 'offroad looking' tyres I've tried.

You will however get better feedback and turn-in with Roadsmarts though and they'll last nearly as long

My 2011 GSA came with Trail Attacks, and they've performed well on the road. I was a bit disappointed with the tread wear though - rear one was worn out at 6k miles, replaced with another TA, and now the front is decidedly dodgy at almost 9k miles.

So I'm going to give the new(ish) Dunlop Trailmax TR91s a try instead.

It'll be interesting to see how you like those and what sort of mileage you get from them. I loved the predecessor D607. It was the veritable shit-to-a-blanket tyre of dual purpose rubber. I think I managed 4.5K miles out of a rear one.....:augie

You guys must ride like Sheen! 9.5k out of my TA's so far with loads of tread remaining.

I must be doing it wrong :nenau

Edit: oh my 100th post

How hard do you guys ride? I'm due a new set of Tyres, my rear Tourance will be pushed to make 6k!

I managed 6k from a rear Tourance once but the wires were showing  5.5k normally for a rear and about 10k for a front. I'm interested in the Trail Attacks now I've gone orange and the Scorpion rear looks about 1/3 worn after 1,000 miles :augie Grippy though.
