Continuing problems with connected ride app

I have established that if I log out the app works perfectly - it is definitely the syncing issues.
If logged in the app cannot record the ride but logged out it works just fine.
Does anyone else find the app will not sync with the BMW server like mine?
Mine now does the same as this

If I stay logged in the app says recording in progress but there is zero data - nothing

My iPhone just auto updated the App to the new 5.4.0 version… and now the app doesn’t even open on my device anymore! Brilliant stuff.
I thought.. ‘It can’t not work any more than it is surely… but no.. it doesn’t even manage to open the app now!!’

It’s strange . The BMW app stops working and BMW have no clue how to fix it but suddenly there’s a solution !! Spend more money on a Garmin or Chigee !! Surely this isnt all planned by BMW ?

Mines been perfect u til it updated today.
Worked perfectly on the run down to Taunton this morning. Three shut downs on way back leaving Navigation greyed out.
Stop(obviously….), open app and it reboots exactly where it left off.

I managed to get the new app to open up finally. Just deleted and reinstalled it 3 times.
Need to connect it to bike next and see how that goes.
At least the data was still there, but lets see what happens with ride recording & nav functions…

Amazingly got mine to work too . I reinstalled the app a few times and did a new connection to the bike .

Hopefully going to get out for a ride later today, so let's see if it records all the stuff it's meant to !

So today’s ride was good, and…. The app functioned just right. New maps look slightly different since app update too. All data recorded from trip with no errors, which is promising.

So, another couple of journeys today…
First one.. only 6 miles.. recorded fine.
Second trip, about 3 hours later, not recorded at all.
Third trip after a stop and log out and back in of the app.. recorded perfectly.

Weird and annoying.

Onahi, on the UKGSer forum, started and chairs the Facebook BMW Connectivity group. Drop him a PM or post the problem on the Facebook group, perhaps? Someone, out of its many thousand members, should have an answer, I guess. Some might even participate in the Beta test programme and (hopefully) have the ear of BMW.

So guys, it seems that the app now works. The latest version has solved the ride recording issues and improved connection speed on my bike anyway

Hi, definitely some aspects are improved with the new release of the App.

Additionally, I received an email reply from Motorrad support to my ticket with them - they recommended turning off the function to automatically add photo's taken on a trip into the App Library.
No other info from them apart from suggesting to try this. They must be aware of bugs in the program.

This is because they do not make any money from the App so support will be absolutely minimal.
That's not strictly true, the app can be considered as part of the overall package and therefore included in the purchase price.

Thread resurrection from the post above.
I’m part of the beta program and there are literally weekly tests - both static and riding of the app, specific bugs, crash logs, etc. reports get submitted and we get paid for the tests and more on top for each bug we find. So it’s in our best interest to do it!
That’s all paid for by BWM Germany so they wouldn’t do it unless they wanted it to function properly

Testbirds

Thank you.

That’s the fellow, I knew it had ‘bird’ in it. All I could think of was the garden water sprinkler people.

It was a few years ago. I earned a few bob out of the thing and quite enjoyed it, not least as it forced me to use a phone based app for navigation.

Just to keep this updated with info.

i had a similar issue. Bike and Mobile cradle are new. Phone will connect to cradle but will not go into cradle mode- meaning it was then not possible to use the wonderwheel.

Clearing app cache, or rebooting phone always rectified it.

The reponse from BMW appears to have worked.

Thank you for your e-mail. We appreciate your efforts to direct your request to us.

In our view the problems mentioned are probably caused by the energy-saving modes of your cell phone (see https://dontkillmyapp.com). Please note that some individual settings will be resetted in case of an update of Android. Please make shure, that the settings are made correctly.

Then check
  • that the app has permanently access to your location (Settings > Location > Always).
  • that the app is allowed to run in background (Settings > Apps > Connected (Motorrad) > Battery > Allow Background Activity)
  • whether the necessary permissions have been granted (More (…) > Permissions > "Location", "Prioritised backgrund activity" and "Display over other apps" have to be activated mandatory)
If a change in the settings of your cell phone were necessary please start the app again.

Finally we ask you to reset the Connectivity/TFT display (call up the >Settings< menu. Select >Reset all< and confirm) and delete all pairings at your cell phone, the Connectivity Hub at Connected App (see https://support.bmw-motorrad.com/s/...radle-smartphone-pairing-3wsMK?language=en_GB) and your communication system. Please remove the ConnectedRide Cradle from the navigation system holder for half an hour. Then reinsert it. Then set up the pairings completely new (please note in this context, that both your cell phone and your communication system may only be paired with the Connectivity/TFT display. An additional direct pairing between communication system and cell phone can cause problems/malfunctions).

Kind Regards,
Steffen Kraft

BMW Motorrad Connectivity

Bought a new K tail end to 2025 -
Riding it in earnest now and putting the miles on
- but I’m losing my shit with this connected app and the tft functions.

I’ve found a iOS shortcut routine that someone has created which does cause my phone to ‘make’ connection now and launch the app when the bike is started as long as the phone is unlocked.
So no more pressing ‘join’ to get the WiFi to connect.

But what I cannot do, is keep the app running and the maps on screen if I take a phone call or change music.
The phone sends it to the background and locks as it were.
The only way around this is to stop and unlock etc.
maybe it’s and iOS thing.
Google AI tells me it’s a common problem.
Which all seems to defeat the whole point of the app and the tft & wheel functions etc to me.

First world problems I know but the whole thing is starting to piss me off now.
I can see why Chigee sell so many units !

Any help or pointers in a useful direction appreciated.
