I had a test ride on a new w/c GS and liked the throttle control so much, I want to try and use the twist-grip etc on a different bike. But could do with some info. and hoped to find some help here.

First of all, I'm not referring to how the engine reacted to the throttle control, just the action of the actual twist-grip. I need a twist-grip with Throttle Position Sensor so the GS one with the starter/kill switches etc. will be ideal. But...

I have the twist-grip and switch assembly to use, but no wiring and I see that BMW plug a short wiring loom into these that then connects to the main harness. How can I obtain the connectors that plug into the twist-grip and switch assembly? Are the short wiring looms with connector available as a spare part? Just the connector? What is the connector type? If I knew the connector type I could try and obtain them to make my own wiring looms.

Also, is the RH grip removable from the twist-grip tube like on other bikes? I have ended up with a heated grip version which is quite possibly different and the grip seems to be almost moulded with the tube rather than a separate part. Can the grips be replaced on both heated and non heated variants?

BTW, if anyone wants to swap their non-heated twist-grip assembly for a heated one, let me know as I do NOT want the heated grip and happy to simply swap.

Yes, I had studied the parts list, but couldn't find anything that made sense. It has just occurred to me that there is another possibility. It is the main wiring harness that reaches all the way to the switches and has the small connectors on the end. I assumed there would be a short joining section, but it is possible that there is only the main harness. I just don't know enough about how BMW 'do' things.

I was also expecting to try and avoid actual BMW parts as they'll be frightfully expensive, whereas if I can just establish what the connector is and find a source, it'll be more reasonable. Both the Throttle Position Sensor connector to the twist-grip and the connector to the switches look to be exactly the same 6 pin connector. Can anyone confirm they are the same?

never seen inside a wc throttle but it might be possible for you to solder on to pins?

Well yes, I could do that, but I rather like the idea of being able to simply disconnect the wiring. Also, the less butchering the better.

I literally spent months and months looking into this as I am a disabled rider having lost my right arm in a bike accident years ago. I needed to extend the wiring so I could place the throttle on the left handlebar.
There is no connector available to plug into the throttle. I even contacted BMW in Germany to try and get one. They would not supply one under any circumstances. In the end I cut the throttle and just added an extension. It had never been tried on a BMW so I took a mega gamble. Fortunately it worked!

Disappointing to hear that BMW refused to help a customer with needs such as yours. A sad fact of today's society seems to be that no-one wants to help anyone, but I digress.

So the actual connector is obviously on the main wiring harness with no way to obtain one (or 2 in my case) apart from getting hold of a complete harness. That would certainly explain why I've not been able to find any reference to them, although not what I wanted to hear. :(

So, looks like I will need to dig out the soldering iron after all. Thanks X5ram for letting me know.

I thought the throttle position was encoded into a digital signal (LINBUS) and transmitted to the ECU....in which case you are likely screwed. Dunno.

However, on the basis I am wrong, I wouldn't bother wasting your time with these proprietary connectors; just snip and solder. Good luck though !

No, the Throttle Position Sensor is just an analogue potentiometer with the typical 6 wire connection. Ref. power, ground and signal - duplicated because there are always 2 sensors for safety and security.

I am now looking into ways of hard wiring them. Or using something else entirely. :)
