Converting tracks into routes

Hi wonder if anyone can help

I have been using a 2810 whilst out riding green lanes, and have some tracks that have now been uploaded to the pc from the unit.

however can you convert the track into a route, or can you activate a track so you can get instructions via the sat nav.

As it only seems to be a way of recording where you have been rather than an instuction of how to get there.

Currently using mapsource on the laptop, but do have basecamp on the pc.

This is something i want to use for green lanes, any help very much appreciated.

I have tried sending a specific track back to the unit, but it does not show up as a route, and have no vision of it on the sat nav.

Does this still work even if it is not a normal road, do i need to keep it as off road on the sat nav, or will it try to recalculate the route to normal roads.

Don't know.

Try it.

See what happens. It won't break. Make a copy first.

You could try to force it along using Waypoints, as opposed to viapoints, perhaps.

Morning,

I gave it a go the other day, copied a track into a new page, then tried to use the arrow tool to draw the route, started with one waypoint, it was fine for a few clicks of the mouse to draw the route over the track.

However, it kept auto filling the route, onto roads, I changed preferences to cycling, minor roads, but it made no difference.

Thanks guys that have offered to convert and send back to me, just trying to sort this fully myself. Will go a third party conversion if need be, only concerned that the sat nav will recaluate to use roads

It looks like you want to have instructions to turn left in 100 m etc. I think that only works with Routes, hence your question. If so, the dynamic nature of the route may prevent it following the original track, as you have found.

If you create waypoints at various key points and let the Sat Nav route between them then it probably won't route you down a green lane. That may be ok on the ground as at least you'll be at the beginning of the lane and when you get to the other end the sat nav will route you to the next one.

Using the track sounds simpler though!

Tracks are breadcrumb trails. Routes are a series of waypoints, like junctions/roundabouts.

When you make an off-road track, its just a series of breadcrumbs recorded at whatever interval you set - distance or time.

The best you can do with tracks is "trackback" - say from "end point" to "start point", but no voice commands.
If you save the track and then invert it, you can trackback from the start to the end.

Tracks, even if marked on the map, such as the Garmin Topo maps, do not have junction data recorded in them so there is no trigger record to issue the voice or on-screen command.
