there is a free program called WinGDB that can convert tracks to routes but I find you still need to fine tune quite a bit to get the converted route to follow the track.
Then:
Load a track into Trackmaker, double click on the track to select it (it should show a line of dots when selected). From the menu select Tools->Tracklogs and Routes->Tracklog Reducer->Check the box - Create a Route.
Remember that routes are less detailed than tracks.
I asked this same question a month or so ago (and received the same answers - Mapsource can't do it but there are some third party tools).
After much faffing with said tools I ended up just 'tracing' over the track using the mapsource route tool - quicker than you'd think to do and you can make sure you include all the relevant turns etc.

Not an answer to the exact question but this may do what you need..
I think I'm right in saying that when you transfer tracks from Mapsource to eg a Zumo, when you manage the new data imported onto the Zumo it actually saves it as a route. This is how I do it when saving offroad tracks anyway.....hope it helps?

That is fine. You can save (convert) a track as a route on the 660. That is OK if there are no glitches (u-turns etc) to edit out. Editing of a track can only be done in Mapsource and is not an option if the track is already converted into a route by a GPS device.
In short:
Record track on 660 - Yes
Is it glitch free? - Yes
Send track to PC (Mapsource) - Yes
Is it received glitch free? - Yes
Send track back from PC to 660 - Yes
Is it received glitch free? - Yes
Ask 660 to convert track into route - Yes
Is it glitch free? - Yes - I can preview it on the 660.
Send freshly converted route back to PC, to save. - Yes
Open route on PC. Is it still glitch free - No - It has selfgenerated a bizare journey (from Braintree via road to Stansted airport) and a straight line (by plane, I can only assume) back to Braintree.
