Thinking of upgrading the glowworm in a jamjar oem headlight bulbs for some H7 LED's.............question is , what is the collectives view on LED's with cooling fans?
Necessary or not?:nenau

I run them without on my KTM and my Audi A2, both work fine.

I run without but I only have the LED in the main beam - That’s IMO is the way forward as you can keep the dipped beam adjusted to a high level and the main then has some range.

I can see where you're coming from but lately (getting older!) the bike lights get swamped by brighter lights from other vehicles. As you tend to be on dip for longer periods than main beam in traffic I want to be able to see where I'm going for the majority of the time. If I swap them for LED's I would do both I think. Some people say get ones with cooling fans as otherwise they get too hot, others say the fans stop working because of dirt/dust.:nenau

In my very `umble opiion I think they are the way forward.

I have used Horizons Led dip & main. Product Code: CREE-H7-GEN4-6.
No fans and 50K miles with no problems.

I agree.
And Mark, thank you for the GSA engine protector and side stand footplate, arrived this morning. No one could ever accuse you of scrimping on materials, those parts will still be there when the rest of the bike has crumbled to dust!:thumby:

Ah, brill, good - I’ve never tried to engineer cost out of a product (not clever enough) so it means the stuff is normally built to last! Ride safe and thanks for your comments.

I've just switched to am entirely new led headlight unit... It's way way better than the led 'bulb' I had put unto the OEM headlight unit... It's a new addition... so my fingers are crossed it just quietly gets on and shows what is supposed to. The cost of these has lowered so into the realms of giving it a punt

I went for the passive LED type -

why put another current draw & potential failure mode into the system ...

And there;s nothing like a squeeling fan to draw the eyes of a beady tester come its annual inspection ;)

Landed to my door it was about £210-220, can't remember precisely right now. That's through Alibaba. Took about 3-4 days to reach me, which I thought was good

MOT issues ??

Local tester was forced to fail my GSA last week for my HiD50's despite passing them previously, he says VOSA are now coming down hard on testers. He told me to refit them once tested if I wanted (after passing the retest with filament lamps) but I can't be arsed with the faff and possible insurance mod malarkey.

Look up sol2.be and read their blurb re LED bulbs. I had a set on my 13 plate GSA and they do not have fans or any of that gubbins. Brilliant lights although a wee tad expensive.

As long as the Beam Alignment is within Tolerances, the Bike should pass regardless of what Bulbs are fitted. I've had LED Units in a Versys and a GSA and also an HID Unit in a Custom, never had any Issues with MOT.
