Corroded adventure

I've been to look at a 2009 adventure and the rear subframe is badly corroded. Is this normal for these bikes. It's only covered 27000 miles. I could probably have it powder coated for not too much money if it's a common thing or do you guys suggest I pass on it and keep looking?

I have a 2004 non ADV 1200 and the rear subframe on mine isn't rotten.

Mine's done 73,000...

I have corrosion spots on my rear subframe, which will be dealt with in the autumn and it'll look brand new when done, so it's not worrying me in the slightest.....

Yep, they do corrode and it's probably due to stone chips. Mine is pretty bad but then again it's done 106,000 miles

If the rest of the bike is good then go for it and sort the subframe out at your convenience

Use it as a bargaining chip to knock price down some bikes corrode others dont whatever the make

2008/2009 bikes are the worst but as said it's easily sorted with powder coat.

Check the engine cases. The front timing case usually corrodes at the bottom but is easily powder coated. I personally believe that's caused by the plastic belt cover fretting through the paint. Elsewhere however is much more hassle to fix so check carefully.

The rear subframe paint on my 08 seems to have rusted through all over rather than in patches. The front subframe hidden under the tank is a lot worse. Again its do-able but even more work stripping it down.
