Hi

I am after some advice. I am looking at buying an2015 gs but the sellers says there is some corrosion on the swing arm. See below. Would you walk away from this, buy it and not worry or buy it and get it sorted (and what would that be and cost)

Thanks

There are thousands out there, look at BMW used approved bikes and eBay to get an idea of prices. Calculate what that bike at that mileage would be worth in excellent condition then factor £1500-1000 off your calculations to fix that and undoubtedly other areas of corrosion. Make a take it or leave it low offer, then walk away. There must be a price at which you would snatch his arm off. Work out what that price is and try it out.

As Alan R said if the swing arm is that bad (not counting a chip in that area caused it) then there will be lots more elsewhere.
Look at the cylinder fins, around the drain plug sub frame.... check the whole thing.

If the price is super low and you were going to use it as a workhorse then fire away. If this is to be your pride and joy then wait and shop around, you will find a much cleaner one.

What annoys me with sellers is they say

It's only a few quid to sort but doesn't bother me or to busy.

It's what's commonly called in the trade....'a lie'.
Similar to "MOT has expired but it won't cost much to get it through", which is another 'lie'.

i would rub the swing arm down with wet and dry, spray a coat of etch primer for aluminium. then spray with silver hammerrite. did some forks in the past and they look mint.
