corrosion

looking at the corrosion on your spoke ends i would say the dealer/bmw will say the bike hasnt been looked after.

unless things have changed, there is no primer or undercut with powder coating.

Surface preparation is degreasing and removal of other matter from the substrate.

Commercial powder coater's don't bother but the good specialists use self etch primer on alloy and zinc passivate or conductive zinc powder on ferrous.

they will look at the whole bikes condition before they give a decesion on the hub.

The dealer, when they take pictures to submit to bm hq they are asked to make a note of any corrosion and if they saw the spoke ends like that they would just say rider neglect regardless.

Ive been in the same situation, engine paint corrosion on a 800gs, bike out of warranty, dealer took pictures and made note that the bike was as good as new and not a rusty fastener insight, outcome was BMW put a brand new engine, foc.

You've had some BMW warranty work in yer time, Dave

Lol..... :)

I have a 2013 GSA and whilst I was cleaning it I noticed that the front hub was showing signs of corrosion where the brake disc is fixed to it !
is it covered by warranty ?

looking forward to your replies
Dave

Hi, I've recently had the rear wheel changed under warranty on my 1 year old GS WC, the coating on the spoke nipples wasn't thick enough which led to the plastic coating bubbling where they meet, funnily enough my front wheel (after careful inspection) didn't suffer the same fate, the rest of the bike is corrosion free..
I regurly use ACF 50 & WD 40 on my bike, including the spoke nipples..

Dealer took piccys, submitted to BMW & approx a week later got a phone call saying they had authorised replacement wheel..

Good news ....... Took my bike into coopers Tunbridge wells this morning and after passing a health check they have agreed that the parts will be replaced under warranty !
You may have noticed I say parts, not only is the front wheel being replaced but also the front engine cover :-) and that is happening next week . so I left there a happy chappy to go to work in the rain which was not event free because in my rush to get to work I ploughed into a flooded section on the A21 pembury bypass !! At about 70 mph !! Had my feet washed of the pegs and a Hugh wall of water blocking my view. Still gave the rozzer something to talk about over lunch

Well done... Nice to see your dealer looked after you.... And that some of the cynical people on here where proved wrong....
