We had document with important info on a pen drive. My wife took it to her work to update some info on it when she had a spare mo. It opened ok, she updated it saved her work.

When she got home, I opened it and although the typing is there, it looks like that the whole document has been written in Russian!!

Is there anything that I can do to retrieve the work?

Help!! :bow

What application did she use to update it with? May just be an incompatibility... take it back to her works and check it.
If its OK there, save it as a .txt or .rft file, then you can open it with Wordpad or Notepad.

Probably just a font problem, or the language setting for the file has been changed.

One important piece of advice - make a copy of the file and experiment with that, preferably not even on the memory stick.

MS Office Incompatability?

Is this the MS Word 2003 versus MS Word 2007 thing? You say document. If it was written in MS Word 2003 (or earlier) at home then it would open OK at work on MS Word 2007. If the document is then saved normally in MS Word 2007 opening it in MS Word 2003 at home would result in a load of hieroglyphs. If this is the problem, need to open it again at work and 'Save As' MS Word 2003' file.

Thanks for the replies. It was written at home on 2003. My wife is not sure what version is at her work, but she thinks it may have been updated over the holidays!!

She took the pen drive back to work and when she tried to open it there, was still in Russian!!

Its not looking good!!
