My 16000 mile service is due and I think it's a biggie

The bike has had a main dealer service history from new so I'd like to keep that going if possible

Just wondering I'd anyone has had theirs done lately at a main dealer and what it cost them?

6/12/18/24 are the intervals - so you're 2k short

18k is a small intermediate service + clutch & brake fluid perhaps if it hasn't been done for a while

If I remember, and it's a while since I had a dealer service, the biggies are 12/24/36 etc

I don't see why you feel you need to have a dealer stamp when there are excellent indies out there who do a much better job:nenau

Seems very bizarre to me unless you are worried about resale value. Even then, I doubt it would have any impact and in fact it would probably be worth more to a discerning buyer:D

Exactly that Bilks, when I buy a vehicle a dealer service says maintained with no expense spared to me whilst an Indy stamp says maintained on the cheap!!

Speak to Jim Carrie at Williams Manchester ... He has always been fair with me !! :D

I would rather do it myself as I did on my 1150, the last 1200 and the new one have to be done so there is no hassle with the warranty.
On the 1150 I would do an engine oil and filter change, gearbox and final drive oil change, air filter plus a full check every 12 months, every two years it got this plus brake fluid change, tappets and a new fuel filter , technically over serviced and better looked after than if it was dealer serviced .
So a lack of dealer service service record doesn't mean it has not been looked after or run on the cheap

Try Paul at The Workshop , Upper Poppleton near York if you decide to move away from the main dealer.
Tel. 07881 798445. Does a good job, not cheap as chips but not up at BMW prices either.

Whose says the dealer although charging top dollar does a better job than an independant specialist
The stamp means it went in for a service it doesn't mean the technician gives a flying toss about your bike
Classic examples oil filters not changed wheels coming lose brake pad fitted without cleaning brake dust off the calipers I've recovered loads of bikes back to the dealers after a shoddy job a lot of indiependant specialists have lower overheads and labour rates that's why a lot cheaper

Interesting comment.

Any Indy has his/her reputation to maintain otherwise they are out of business

A main dealer relies on people like yourself.

My 18k service from Dick Lovett cost £252.66 on a 2010 DOHC GS just over a year ago, if that helps.

If your bike is more than a few years old, I'd go indie, too. I've just done so, with the feeling that after 30k miles and 4 years there probably aren't going to be any huge goodwill benefits coming my way from BMW if it goes bang in any case.

BMW will thank you for that, but still give you bugger all for it when you go to trade it in.

Excuse me Paul B, for a moment there I thought you said "on the cheap" while talking about dealer servicing.
