Hi

Can anyone tell me if it is currently possible to negotiate a price on a new Adventure with a dealer. Or is it the case that they all 'price fix' and your only chance of a discount is to get a deal on accessories like panniers or clothing. (something I'm not looking for at the moment from BMW)

I understand that sticking to list price keeps the residual price high, but it would still be nice to get something off and I wouldn't mind travelling to get a deal.

Furthermore, is anyone out there using their Adv everyday for all their traveling, inc. touring, commuting and going to Tescos. I don't have a car and currently use an ageing boxer for just about everything. I'd be interested to know how you get on day to day with such a large bike.

Thanks

every day use

I use my 02 Adv evry day - weekly commute, football trips, occasionally shopping and also long distance trips.
It does them all brilliantly.
I can carry loads of stuff - it filters traffic well enough - I think the height and size work in its favour sometimes as the cars seem to move over more - perhaps it's just the polite Edinburgh drivers of course.

Doubt you'll get much discount, if any. Why not try buying an 03 - that should save you some cash.

ADV – Best all round bike!!!!!!

I live in central London and I use mine for everything (all year round). I sold my car a few years back as it was more hassle then it was worth i.e. parking, congestion charge, slow moving traffic etc etc. I use my bike as the only means of transport - going to work, shopping, going out and weekend runs. I also use the bike for longer runs to Holland for long weekends as well as longer tours (just come back from Norway and the Stella Alpina and did about 4000 miles). The only problem I encountered was a bust rear wheel bearing, which BMW/Vines said they would pay for even though the bike is not under warranty any more.

Luggage

Hi

What luggage systems are you 'everyday' gser's using and why.
Anyone dissapointed with the bmw system?

Thanks

Second hand is worth a look. I had a flick through the bikemart section of MCN last week - never seen so many GS's for sale! Several GSA's, often loaded with extras, low mileage, probably keen to haggle cos their new 12GS is on the way.... :D

Certainly whenI bought my current bike new (F650, not an Adventure but the principle is the same) there was just no negotiation on the price. I did raise the subject and it was quickly shot down in flames. I know for a fact that a friend of mine tried exactly the same, with exactly the same result, and I have spoken to others who have had the same experience. I suppose BMW will just not negotiate if they don't need to.

It's not the cost of the bike...

It's all the stuff you put on it that get you.

And the money you spend on petrol, 'cause your always riding the bloody thing. Any excuse. "Ooo lets go to Andover, and ride around all day."

I've never been so broke.

Brilliant.

Sorry...
before anyone starts.

It should read you're, not your.

That all right is it?

I sold my car two years ago and ride the ADV all the time here in Dublin. Cant beat the prescence on the road. I use the right hand side alloy pannier as my top box. They are interchangeable and this box takes a large briefcase and lots of wet gear. Dont worry about the discount, just buy the bike and use it.

Bought mine in June and got a discount offered at 2 dealers. It contributed 70% towards the cost of my alloy panniers. Negotiate last with your preferred dealer so you can seal the deal on the spot.

Bought my GSA in December 03 for collection January 04, got about 8% off list i.e. roughly got the ABS for free and then had 10-20% of a range of extra bits and clothing.

The same, or a very similar, deal was offered at 3 different dealers, I chose BVM as they came very highly recommended (and rightly so, they are great) and they are only about 1 hour away from me.

Don't have an adv just a GS, top all day everyday bike. I use it all the time no problem...

dont listen to him he doesn´t know what hes talking about. Get an adventure! Hell even if you have to get a black one. :D

In terms of price I am pretty sure that you can negotiate on the price of the accesories though, could be interesting if you want some cases, maybe some clothing - anything basically that they put on at the dealer.

I spent over ten grand in one day on the bike+ABS etc,BM insurance, and a new BM evo4 helmet. The b*astards would`nt even give me a discount on a 4 quid key fob, nevermind letting me have one for free.
