What were you guys in the UK charged when you took your bike in for its first 600mile service, and is it true they do valve adjustment at this service?

Can't remember how much it costs, but this is what they check

BMW Motorrad

Maintenance schedule

0307 - R 1200 GS

00 00 119 BMW Running-in Check (see Maintenance Schedule) (once only at 1,000 km)

Reading fault memory with BMW Motorrad diagnostic system

Engine-oil change, with filter

Tightening cylinder head fasteners

Adjusting valve clearance

Checking brake-fluid level, front brakes

Checking brake-fluid level, rear brakes

Checking freedom of movement of throttle cable and checking for kinks and chafing

Checking tyre pressures and tread depth

Checking lights and signalling equipment

Function test, engine start suppression

Checking synchronisation

Test ride as final inspection and function check

Reading fault memory with BMW Motorrad diagnostic system

Confirming BMW Service in on-board documentation

Asked the same question a little while back. 1st Service is subsidised and comes to just under £100, and yes valve clearances are done.

David.

Two things

Firstly the dealer I bought it from inspects the rear drive and changes the oil, this was not on the official list

Secondly he charges about £160. Another garage I phoned charges £265 as I didn't buy the bike there (£50 cheaper if I did).

yes from 2007 model the final drive, which was supposed to be sealed for life, was given a service bulletin to change oil at first service. This was due to a change in manufacturing of the final drive. A way of stopping the final drive failures happening, was to change oil after the initial run-in period and get rid of the contaminates.

£160 sounds about right, it all depends on where in the country you are, and if you have engine bars or anything that needs to be removed to do the service.....Time=money

:eek::eek::eek:

My mate was charged £46 and a week later I was charged £50. Don't know where the price difference comes from. I guess you're not buying the bike from the dealers you are quoting prices from? There's no way it should be that much :nono

service cost

Hi, Had my r1200gs serviced 4 weeks ago over at williams in manchester.

They charged me £46:clap, And this included the small job of fitting panners
and coding the key.

It seems there is some price difference from dealer to dealer.

It is my understanding that the dealer who you bought the bike from should
subsidize the cost of the service, This only applys to the first service.

:beerjug: Dave.

Yep the dealer I bought it from new is charging £160 (2007 model) :(

Same here : SLM charged £200 less a £100 sales dept contribution as I bought the bike from them.

Bumpy, seeing as you live in Herts, you probably went to SBW, and I know they have a high labour cost. can you list on here exactly what you have been charged for per item

SBW was the other garage I phoned who quoted £265 as I didn't buy the bike there (£50 cheaper if I did).

I haven't had the service yet. I am just trying to ensure I am not ripped off when I do;)

I think I will be avoiding SBW at that price - perhaps they think the good people of Herts are loaded.

for m33ufo BVM first class :) what i like is on collection after the service their mechanic takes the time to explain what has been done in the service.:thumb2

Well that's good news. I ordered the bike without actually visiting the dealership although their salesman (Tim) seemed a really nice guy. I'll probably take a drive up Saturday for a chat :)

I think you should ask them to justify that price. Methinks they :monkeypiz
Like I said earlier, I was charged £50 at Williams in Manchester. The cost was for the following parts:-
Final Drive Oil
Engine Oil
Oil Filter
Seal Ring
plus an 'Environmental' charge.
Labour was all free.

OK, paying for parts is acceptable but what about labour charges. Are people saying that BMW subsidise this in full, or is it up to the local dealers?:eek
