Here you go boys and girls,
one to watch out for.

Check you old engine oil for important bits of engine.

Or you could end up as sick as a dog when this happens
just after the warranty runs out.

Four bent valves.

Ruined piston.

Nasty:(

Was the 'no' from the dealer or BMW UK?

If the former, I'd be taking it further for sure.....BMW do have a reasonably good history of just-out-of warranty stuff being looked after :thumb2

Or (as an afterthought) is this from one of those silly things that needs a total rebuild after 70 hours and maybe it wasn't done? :nenau

BMW UK

When I bought It the dealer said you can do your own servicing and still have the warranty.
BMW UK said today "No service history,no after warranty help"

Stuffed good and proper and as sick as a dog.

My only form of transport ruined after two years.

These are the problem.

This also happened.
Notice crack and missing tooth.

See smashed cam chain gear.

How does the cost of parts to repair stack up against the cost of 24k's worth of servicing??

Bez - I presume you have done your own servicing, or got someone else to do it? If so, if you have the receipts and you can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the servicing has been done on time, then you have a strong case for a warranty !!

Dear Bez, what model was it? xmoto, xchal, country, what year? has anyone ventured a trail of events what went first and why?

is there anybody out there??! I got one and have had metal fragments too and have just been told by two dealers that fragments are not unusual and to run it and see. So was it the washer fragments that crunched the gog that torn the crank? What milage had you done? I'm on the verge of pulling off the covers for a good look.

David,
sorry for not replying until now.

Part one

DO NOT TAKE THE ENGINE APART !!!

Otherwise you will not have a leg to stand on when you tell BMW you've
found the fault.
This is (I know) is a catch 22 situation
but you must not take it apart yourself.
(I found out the hard way and I would not wish this situation on anyone)

The only option you have is to let the fault develop and let the motor
lock up and fail.

Part two.

DO NOT TAKE THE ENGINE APART !!!

These machines came with a very good two year warranty,
that allows you to do your own servicing whilst keeping the warranty valid.

BUT !

If you do your own servicing you will not get any goodwill fixes from
BMW UK once that warranty has expired. (as mine had [by two months] when the engine failed)
I was told in no uncertain terms to Farkle off.
Exact words were "you didn't pay any of our dealers to do your servicing,so we won't fix it for free now the warranty has expired" (me . . . .GULP)

If you are in the same situation as i was then please PM me
as i have loads of information on fixing them yourself,
much cheaper than BMW will quote you.

Also could you post up a picture of the metal that has come out.
I may be able to tell where it came from and save you a little time/money.

Mine has now done 27000 miles,
3000 since the re-build and all is well.(touch wood). . . . . (taps head)

Bez.

cheers bez. Yes I decided not to go to the bad place and open her up with a can of "wop ass". It just seemed a little quiet out there i cybr land. I guess all the bits are out now oil and filter have been changed. I've got till jan 2010 when the two years expires. I'll take it in to Vines for a service in December. It's done about 3,500 miles. As both dealers said, if it sounds ok then ride it enjoy it. What the heck live is too short to worry.
Ah la de la! see some of you at the Cambrian. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
