Hey folks,

Today I successfully installed my 660 on a custom mount and wired it to the battery on my GSA, all bright and tight with a fair amount of smugness. I connected up my headphones to the audio out socket and all works well, until I start the bike! So what's causing the crackle? Is it my cheap (£19) Sennheiser in ear headphones? Hell knows!

Any advice from experience much appreciated, thanks,

Troy.

Not sure about bikes but the coil and HT leads used to be favourite on cars. The crackle would change frequency with the revs of the engine. Could get some kind of suppresor to fit somewhere.... Sorry, it was a few years ago now.......

You need an Earth Loop (aka Ground Loop) filter. It goes inline between your earplugs/speakers and the Audio Out of the Zumo.

Maplins sell one, but it's the size of a can of baked beans, and Autocom also make/sell one, which is probably a better fit/size. If I recall correctly, the Autocom version has the necessary 3.5 jack sockets/plugs that are needed, whereas the Maplins thing needs phono-to-jack-plug-convertors and all that bollox. Doesn't just add to the price, but takes up even more room!

I haven't had chance to confirm if the Autocom version will work OK, but I can't see why not, as it's just suppressing noise, rather than being a bespoke addition to their proprietary kit??

I shall be browsing their website later with a view to purchasing one, anyhow, after I've checked the 3.5 stereo jack plugs/sockets are correctly orientated.

Any Motorrad dealer should be able to order one for you, too.

Yoy
