I’m removing the alternator front case to correct the corrosion and I wanted some pointers.

I can’t release the crank but but the bike is in pieces. Front end still there though getting in the way. I’ve ordered a 34mm socket si haven’t got one and the 36 isn’t gripping it. Hate these sizes, they are always ones I don’t have 🙄

What’s the best way of holding the engine without damage. Crack locking pin?? Does it work? Don’t want to damage engine. Should I buy one from motorworks or is there a great tool that fits like a 5mm Allen key?? I also don’t know where the locking tool goes. Any red l help appreciated.

I’m going to powder coat the casing then on retirement use a good grade sealant, heat resistant. I’ve done a recent Hyundai cam chain and I know you have to be extremely thorough with cleaning and prep.

Also will the removal of this case dump a lot of oil?? Or just the residual that sits in that area that hasn’t drained already?

Many thanks

Use a crank lock pin - yes they work and that’s what they are for. Don’t forget to take it out again when you’re done.

Yes you will drop a little oil.

There are vids on YouTube that will give you an idea of what to expect.

Having done a few, my rule no 1 is get the right tool for the job.

Good luck and be prepared for £££. It’s a slippery slope.

Disconnect electric connectors from both fuel injectors. Socket on nut, ignition on, hold socket bar with one hand, tap starter button with other. Nut will now be loose…. Oh, just noticed the bike is in pieces :D

Be prepared for ££££ £???
Why?
I do know that once I start to overhaul it’sa slippery slope. I’m being careful about what I overhaul and what will make a difference aesthetically. This I’m confident is a remove, shot blast powder coat (magnesium) and refit reseal . Maybe a seal change if it’s off. Maybe not. All seems great. We’ll see what the top attachments are like. Corroded? Don’t know yet haven’t tried them.

Rest of the bike is going well. 72k on an 06 plate. Looked after though but well ridden
